Gregg "Opie" Hughes, 37, and Anthony Cumia (IAMANTHONY), 39, who first teamed up on Long Island rock station WBAB 102.3FM in 1994. Opie was the evening personality and Anthony (IAMANTHONY), whose day job was installing air conditioning, started off as a frequent guest. In 1995, when WBAB had no place for them as a team, the pair went up to Worcester's WAAF 107.3 FM where former PD Ron Valeri (now with sister-station Star 93-7) put them in the PM-drive as a replacement for Liz Wilde who took off to host a night-time talk show Chicago. At WAAF, their outrageous stunts and parodies quickly made them the region's No. 1 show for men. They invented WOW in Boston, and it became so popular that the Massachusetts State Police, asked them to lay off because it was causing highway accidents(BRW 6/29/97). When they were fired in 1998 over an April Fool's joke (they reported that the mayor had been killed in an automobile accident), it didn't take long before stations around the country were on the phone. But when CBS/Infinity told them it would build its entire hot talk station(WNEW) around them, they were hooked. They even met the big guy, Mel Karmazin, head of Viacom/CBS. We get new mods like every week, last week was afrika's turn but he was too busy giving FU's to faceman. Anyway not like Anthony checks this forum, not like sean even checked it.
