| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00  | Since I realized a lot of D&M fans come in this forum I figured I'd ask- exactly what do/have Don and Mike done that warrants them to be considered as good as you make them? How have they broken new ground? How are they funny? What have they done that O&A have ripped off? I'm not doing this to tool on people or anything, I seriously want to know exactly what the appeal/credentials of Don and Mike are. They used to be like Opie and Anthony, they were always willing to push people over the edge and do outrageous things. Mike really does do terrific impressions, and he used them often to make fun of whatever the current hot topic was. Now, they're just old. The fans of Don and Mike are still fans b/c they're used to them. It's what a lot of us grew up with (in DC). | Hanger-On Registered: Mar. 02 | Lets be honest here. The 2 shows are completely different. I do enjoy listening to both shows. But it does get old when people keep ripping something you enjoy apart. Don and mike do a show with many different parts to it, and different bits. O and A do a show where they hang out and comment on things they read in the paper or saw on tv or maybe comment on somthing that happened to them dirrectly. comparing these 2 shows is like comparing a toasted quiznos sub to a non toasted sub. Apples and Oranges. To me, they are both funny and unfunny at times. If you dont find humor in one show or the other, the obvious answer is to just not listen. Yeah ive said some dumb shit on this board, but there have been others on different boards saying some dumb shit too. | Hanger-On Registered: Mar. 02 | I listened to the show for 10 years. What I used to like, was when they fought with callers on the air. Now they don't even do that anymore. The show is a sinking ship.They don't care about their listeners. When they have naked girls in they won't even put them up on the web for their fans. When the show is compared to O&A, it really falls short. They can be successful in DC because DC is a pansy white collar town which is ringed by hick, redneck suburbs like Manassas and Waldorf. Take a guy from one of those towns and drop him off in New York or Philly and he'll never make it home. | ||||

Okay, sure, it had some drawbacks. It was sponsored by Nextel and there was some self serving bullshit, but it was VERY little. It was well done and a very good tribute. I'd much rather hear a fat ass talk through a harmonizer pretending to be a baby as opposed to the problems facing our world. Jesus Christ. If O&A can set time aside, then ANYONE can. (Don't go to CNN for dick jokes, don't come to us for the news). It is ridiculous to bad mouth that documentary. Fuck them. | ||||

Don essentially has 3 words - "dumbass" (but I guess their new, hip way of saying it is D.A.), "douche bag", or for the ladies - "bitch". Listen to the man argue, and those are the only words you'll hear. It's pathetic. And Mike is a rather shitty impressionist. He can do two good impressions, and that's it: Regis & Larry King. Neither are really that relevant anymore either. As for today's D&M show (you'll get this if you heard the first 10 minutes) - please, why couldn't it have been the stairs. The similarities are that they are two white guys, who seem to like each other, do a four hour radio show five days a week, and need to fill that time in a way that will make people want to listen. The talent on both shows seem to have good chemestry. But, deep down, the two shows are just different. D&M have just been doing this for a lot longer, that's all. So it's natural that shit they did has been done before, or after, and maybe better. What they can say, that O&A will never be able to say, is that they actually beat Howard Stern in the ratings when they went head to head. Don and Mike also seem to have a better grasp of satire; when Don yells at someone on the phone, listeners know he's got a big smile on his face, laughing his ass off. When Opie gets into a rave out, you actually believe he would kill the person; when he calls a woman a bitch or a whore, you believe that he means it, and wouldn't give a shit if a 14 year old listener went out and raped her. There - that's a perspective. All of that said, ANYONE who thinks this on air feud between O&A and D&M is anything but staged for ratings is either retarded or prepubescent...or both. This is classic radio shit. It's the kind of crap Don and Mike have been doing for years (shit they even admit to, 10 years down the road), and it wouldn't be so damn obvious with O&A if they didn't just go through this same bullshit with Howie last year. The only original talent at WNEW is RON AND FEZ. If this feud does turn out to be legit, hey are stupid, though, for pinning their hopes on O&A. Don and Mike, for being two fat, old douche bags, actually have the ear of managment there (even higher than Ken or Jeremy), and no matter how much you keep bitching and complaining, they are not going anywhere. O&A, on the other hand, are desperate for the phat Howard time slot that was promised them across the network, and they are bitter as two spanked little bitches when they learned that their ONLY use to Infinity and CBS was to be used as chum to get Howard to re-up again. Just as CBS used Howard to get David Letterman to resign, they used O&A to get Howard to come back. They will feel like complete morons (if they don't already) when Howard resigns AGAIN in a couple of years, there-by damning them in afternoon drive for the rest of their pathetic "show us your tits" careers! TAKE A GOOD LONG LOOK AT DON AND MIKE! That will be OPIE AND ANTHONY in 15 years!!!! RON AND FEZ RULE! O&A ARE PUNK LOSERS!! (The only thing dumber than O&A are O&A Fans!) They did beat Stern, yes, in the mid 80's, when both shows still played music. They were on a top 40 station and Stern was on a hard rock station. In DC top40 music is more popular. A few years later (seems they never remember to bring this up), both Stern and Greaseman beat them so badly, that they pretended to be angry at the fans, then pulled one of those fake suspension stunts. Soon after that they left that station and went to afternoon drive. Where is the Kent State National Guard when you need 'em? | ||||

Again, they need to thank Opie and Anthony for getting them a New York audience, if you call it that. They were on tape delay in New York, after Opie and Athnony before they were on live in New York. Opie and Anthony didn't get that luxury. Opie and Anthony gave them a lead in. Any ratings for Don and Mike in New York are biased and so are their listeners. They are herrendous.  GO HOME HILLARY! They are the true clones of Stern, they sometimes do the same thing word for fucking word. I guess it really does not matter because it is just a radio show and they (Howard, O&A, and d&m) all bow to the same god and his name is MEL. I have been a Stern fan for almost 19 years and an O&A fan for about 2 and they are both great but Don and Mike are terrible, I think I can yell out of my 12th floor office window and have more listeners then them. | ||||
