NOTE: I will revert back to Private Parts (The Stern Movie). It seems inappropriate, but please read.

I learned that sometimes the original is just outdated. Coke, Netscape, IBM, and Howard Stern.

Howard Stern's movie showed him as the new guy at NBC struggling against the guy at the top of the radio world (at the time) Don Imus. Imus was rude, and treated him like shit - and was jealous of Stern, and blamed NBC for hiring his own competition. Why didn't Howard Stern learn anything?

What I really learned from listening to ONA was that Howard turned into Imus. The gag order preventing ONA from even mentioning his name, the whole morning radio slot at WNEW, complaining to infinity about hiring his best competition.. Stern is Imus. Fuck Stern. Trying to bar ONA from mornings is a major sign of fear.

Viva ONA!

Why would infinity ever put their 2 best who happen to have basically the same target audience up against one another. That is bad business, Infinity makes far more money this way. Believe me ultimately they all (Howard, O&A) bow down to the same god MEL

While we're going with analogies here - maybe it's like:

Don Imus = Johnny Carson
Howard Stern = David Letterman
Opie & Anthony = Conan O'Brien

(before the hate mail starts, this analogy won't work if you don't like Conan... duh!)

But the general gist of this is that you have the old veteran who really wasn't ever funny he just didn't have too much in the way of competition and he appeals to the geriatric folks. That's your Imus/Carson.

Then you've got your guy who at one time was VERY cutting edge and even though he was borrowing from those who came before him, he had his own style of doing things that made them seem like his own and hell, they were pretty funny. However, one day he signed a lucrative deal with CBS, went into an earlier time slot and the show simply became predictable and tired just like its host. That's your Letterman/Stern.

Then you had a new kid on the block, the one who everyone doubted could ever make the big time. This one was willing to take the risks though and do some really cool comedy that was dark, but funny as hell. This new show made you remember how the show before it used to be good before it got stale. There's my Conan/O&A deal.

Does this stand up to close scrutiny? Who the hell knows, it's just food for thought.

Caught a little of Imus's show on MSNBC Friday morning (sorry, I work nights and was drunk off my ass when I decided to waste 15 minutes of my day watching that douchebag).
He had just come off a commercial break and was talking to a female psychatrist over the phone. She told him that he was a little uptight about his career, and should really "take a horseride with Howard Stern, Dr. Laura, and Opie & Anthony". He became immediately agitated and replied "No, I don't think that would be a very good idea", then waved to his slaves to take him back right into another commercial break, and ended the interview. The rod up this guy's ass is so wide that it's got him constipated to the point that his shit's backed up into his brain and is pouring out of his mouth! What's wrong with this guy?!?! F'n egomaniac!

I like the analogy, Spork.
Don Imus on a horseride with Stern and Opie and Anthony?
Imus and Stern would be fighting while O&A watched and ate popcorn, laughing.
