I've been listening to & laughing with the Howard Stern Show for several years now. And while you guys (Opie & Anthony) do have some funny content and the occasional good pearl of humor, you are a bastard child of Stern. Everything you 'think' you are doing differently are a weak copy of territory already covered… Stern did 20 years ago. I find the way you all vehemently deny and refute your obvious attempts to follow his already established formula (to a point… not exactly) and refuse to acknowledge it quite amusing. I'll keep listening to Stern in the morning & giving you all a chance in the afternoon. Hopefully, you can break free and be original (GOOD LUCK!)... or at least, genuinely funny. Go ahead and rag on my opinion now... like I give a shit. ;)

I think all anyone can ask you to do is to keep listening. You seem to be fairly open-minded about the whole thing because you do say that you'll listen for a while to get a better feel for the show.

If you follow through on that I'm pretty sure you'll dig the boys as much as we do. Sure, you're dealing with a "genre" of radio so there will be some things that seem to be the same between Howard Stern and O&A, but for the most part the shows are very much different in their spirit and in the connection the hosts have with their listeners.

Enjoy the show!

You're right Spork, he does seem a bit more open-minded in comparison to most... and I believe that somewhere in his statements there was an actual compliment for the boys. :)

BigD29: A lot of the folks around here at some time or another thought just like you (myself included), that O&A are essentially younger versions of Stern, or exist in his "genre". Over time, we also all came to the same conclusion: O&A are better, funnier, and most importantly, different. I will never fault you for listening to both shows, or favoring one over the other, but I guarantee that in time you will share the same viewpoint that most of us do. Just give them time to prove it to you.

Oh, and btw-- welcome to the madness of OA.com... :)

Holy shit, a Stern fan that actually made a relevant argument. Hey, you have your opinion, and although it's wrong :) , i respect it. O&A have a sick, twisted view of the world and sense of humor all their own.

welcome to the board BigD

fuck every other argument and point established about this whole "O&A vs. Stern" debacle, i view it this way, which is the simplest possible way i can think of: O&A GET FUNNIER AS YOU KEEP LISTENING TO THEM WHILE STERN GETS CONSISTENTLY LESS FUNNY. its as simple as that, those who think im wrong, just listen and wait.....

Dude, that quote is PERFECT!!! You just summed up every Howard vs. O&A argument in one line. Impressive!!

BigD, keep listening, it gets better every day. Howard didn't invent radio, he just improved it. O&A are picking up where he left off...

Thanks for all your feedback... and yes, I like to think I have an open mind. I will keep listening and give these guys a chance. I have already heard some promising things (that's why I've decided to stay onboard). I guess, in a way, I get a little tired of hearing people constantly rag on Stern. He is not on the way out... actually, I think he's gotten funnier (now with his rotating cast of comedians offering up brilliant voice impressions/content, not to mention his great guests). It's going to take some time for Q&A to get out of his 'nose' shadow (LOL), but I feel they will. Co-exist in peace. Stern has the mornings... you guys will rule the afternoons.

Hey Welcome to the board, Bigd. I'll try to tolerate your kind on this board, and no I'm not talking Cleland, I'm talking Stern type.
However, you seem to be open minded and is willing to try new things, and since you're a new listener, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
But keep this in mind, There is also one big difference between O&A and Stern...
O&A are too lazy to write a script.

One point, people who dont "give a shit" about other people's opinions dont post on and seek out a message board. We all "give a shit" even if we say we dont. And responding to our responses just proves that out. If you didnt "give a shit", you'd post your opinion(which your right about to an extent) and leave it be.

And that's my opinion. Oh, and I dont give a shit what you have to say about it.

All i can say is (and this is probably true of at least half the board) that i was a listener of stern before i discovered O&A. like most people, i heard him declining over the last couple years. I still listen when i'm in the car in the morning every once in a while, and i just don't find him funny anymore. give the boys a chance, they grow on you like a fungus.

Formulaic or not, ripoffs or not, O&A are capable of one single thing: they can keep my attention for four hours every day. O&A struck a chord with me.

I've been listening to Stern for over twelve years, and I can't say the same for his show. The constant megalomania and egomania ruins Stern's show. I get disgusted and I have to tune out.

The only problem I have with BigD29 is that he said "what Stern was doing 20 years ago". If you are in Cleveland, how long could you have possibly listened to Stern. Are you going by the information he tries to brainwash his audience with, that he is the original everything?

BigD, while you're not that much of a douchebag, all O&A do are talk about regular stuff. Stern paved the way, but O&A have made it more better. Peter the Great of Russia was one of the first to have a standing army, does that mean Napolean was ripping him off?

"more better"? (LOL)

This country is going to hell.

I have actually been giving O&A a chance this week, and they are growing on me (although they still use a lot of Stern's ideas, at least they are injecting some decent humor)

And, by the way, your argument about Napoleon is ridiculous. 20 years ago, no one was doing radio or pushing the envelope like Howard Stern (that's a fact), and he deserves due credit. O&A are proving themselves to be alright in my eyes... so I'll keep listening as long as it remains funny/interesting to me.

Your "douchebag" (LOL),

Thanks Kansei. O&A did give Stern his props. They have said they would never be doing what they're doing if it weren't for Stern. What's wrong with the Napolean reference? Did it go over your head? There have been a lot of Stern zombies that come here, claiming the listen to O&A, but really just want to spread propanganda. So far, you haven't been one of them. Keep it up

NJopposition and WhackBagKid, I applaud those arguments. Stern gets less and less funny as time goes on whereas Opie and Anthony get funnier and funnier everyday.
