| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | Fucking A man! I have got to learn that sometimes my brilliant ideas are just more trouble than they are worth! I have a cable modem that I have been running through a USB adapter. Why you say? Because when the tech installed it two years ago he was in a hurry, last job of the day and all and when the network card didn't take right away, he automatically went right to the USB adapter. God forbid he do his fucking job and make sure the installation was complete and proper. So, I decide "no problem, I'll just fix it later"..... but the jackass took the driver disk with him. Now, I probably could have downloaded the appropriate drivers then and there, but I had more important things to do..... like surf the fucking net damnit! Eventually I get around to trying to download the drivers, but the company doesn't exist any more, yada yada. No big deal, I just lived with the USB adapter. All in all, there isn't a huge performance difference. Now lately I have been having problems with the adapter freezing up.... not a huge thing, you just need to unplug the cat 5 and plug it back in. Unfortunately if you are in the middle of a download that can't be properly resumed, you are screwed.... basically it is just a nuisance. Well, today I get a bug up my ass to go out and pick up a new network card so I can rid myself of this minor inconvenience. Get home, install that puppy and..... the driver disk is a piece of shit! Ok.... go to the website, download the drivers, back in business! Until I go to reload the software for the modem, configured for the ethernet card. I can't get shit! Run all the swift little diagnostics and the fucking thing pretty much just laughs at me. Well, after several hours of reseating the card and reloading the software I am becoming ...shall we say.... a teensy bit upset? Fuck that, I was FUMING! At my wits end, I decide to go back to the adapter :) and all will be well in my little internet junkie world. NOT! Now I can't even get that hunk of worm infested camel shit to operate. Ok.... time to do the nasty..... tech support. You know..... the world of cranky little nerds sitting at thier cubicle, all kinds of pissed off that some computer moron is interupting their game of Diablo 6,487,263. (My apologies to those of you who fall into this category....oh, I am not taking it back, just apologizing for hurting your little feelings :) ) To my astonishment, the guy was real cool..... only because he was a Canuck, and it's just their nature :) I am sure that deep down, he wanted me dead too. Well, it turns out that all it really was was a setting that was wrong. For those of you with Cable and DSL, you will understand, the "Computer Name" was wrong. Oh, I pretty much had an idea that I would find this to be the problem, but you see, that trailer park living toothless Natural Light drinking scumbag technician that installed the fucking internet in the first place didn't bother to fill out my documentation completely and that particular space was blank. Oh.... fear not, I checked, and yes, it is his responsibility to ensure that I had that and all other pertinent information filled out properly. Needless to say, we got that straightened out, and I am now back online..... hell, I even got brave and put the fucking card back in, but no thanks to that sniveling little douchebag that just had to get home to beat his wife and drink warm piss! Fuck you you skinny crackhead motherfucker.... I will remember you, and God forbid I come across you some day.... your ass is mine. But I would like to take a second to thank Greg up there in Edmonton for helping me out tonight, your work was truly appreciated. (Yes, I know that he will likely never see this, but you never know) On a related note..... FUCK YOU McAffee! You bastards! You will not allow me to update my engine without forking over more cash, yet you do not make the latest updates available for the product I have paid for? Screw you..... I am happy to say that I am now a shiny fucking happy Norton's user. Oh.... and fuck this god damned post because I didn't fucking copy it. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | amazingly Slack... your tech support experience seems par for course with cable modems.. when I first installed mine I had a bitch of a time getting my associated optonline e-mail working. I spent a good 3 days trying to get it straight before I finally caved and called tech.. took 10 minutes with one of the friendliest support staffers I've ever talked too. Hell.. I didn't even have to do anything.. since cable modems are a constantly connected network.. she was able to just log into my computer from her desk and take care of it for me.. just like tech at work. I have to say.. I'm very impressed with the optonline support staff so far myself.  No! I am NOT a Goth Dude!! "Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun!" | ||||
