I pay 40 bucks a month and the service sucks:

  • People working in tech support didn't pass the 7th grade
  • The stupid thing slows down after maybe 5 minutes after logging on
  • The download times aren't nearly what they are promised to be for my service package

Hey fez, DILLON!. Didn't you notice the same thread just 10 topics down. But staying on the topic, I have Verizion and it sucked so much at the beginning but now it is much better. What helped me a lot was a router. I needed that anyway so i would recommend getting one.

Fez, how about that! There are two, two! F-U’s to Verizon from us!

I would like to give another F-U to Verizon DSL. I have totaled 3 1/2 hours with tech support (75% on hold) and still no solution. Download speed = 4.88 KB/Sec currently.

Well, I don't know what to tell you all. I have had Verizon for almost a year now. I had issues in the beginning, and I agree the Tech people are not the brightest individuals.

Since then, I have had great success with my service. I even have a direct line to contact them, without the hold times. I will post it at a later time (I do not have the # with me).

My download times average around 65.0 kbps. I will stay with them, I like the option of going to dial-up if DSL service is down for some reason.

I commented on this in the other thread, but I'll do it here now 'cause in my book, verizon could use an FU from me (more for my cell phone service, but an FU is an FU)

In any case, I was going to consider Verizon for DSL, but I heard they were going to produce "do it yourself installation" pacakeges in their cell phone stores, and that turned me off (what a cluster-fuck those things were)- couple that with nothing but bad reviews on several Broadband rating sites, I'm glad to say I went with a cable modem. I pay the same $40/month, dealt with customer service once, and it was smootha as silk. Give Verizon the biggest FU and take your business elsewhere.

I will make some suggestions to you people. Visit this Website and Visit this Website. Also don't expect more than 80% what they promise you. No ISP can do that. Also I highly suggest getting a router. They are dirt cheap and are great for several reasons. They handle requests better for you. It also allows you to be actually always on. Just leave the router on all the time which is actually the better thing to do. No more logins. And it allows you to add a second comp without any slowdown.

As a former Verizon customer (now mindspring $10 more a month and twice the speed, plus connected a week before I supposed too), here are some tips for your DSL pleasure:

1: change the the tcp/ip binding on your NIC card from automatically obtain the IP address to the specific IP of 10.255.255.10 with a gateway of 255.255.255.0

this eliminates that 20-30 second lag every 5 or 6 links clicked.

2: For everything DSL go to Visit this Website

3: Consider RASPPPoE as opposed to WinPoet. Speeds are slightly increased with a little more reliability.

that's about all I can think off...Cheers!

FU to DSL installation and service, Agreed! I paid $40.00 a month for what to wait around 3 months and dial up.I will say that I have Earthlink and it seems to be fast. Meatball Nip who is my old roommate will attest to that!!!

Not any problems but that's probably because I have been connected thru my router for a couple months.

NyquilJay , Here's the thing: Mindspring is run
by Earthlink, who bought out Mindspring a year or
so ago. Earthlink ALSO offers DSL, which is who I
subscribe to. Unfortunately, anyone in the
tri-state area who subscribes to DSL is actually
subscribing to verizon DSL. That is because
Verizon owns all the DSL lines in the tri-state
area and gets a rate from any company who wishes
to offer it. And I wholeheartedly agree, Verizon
DSL sucks. Earthlink DSL sucks. Mindspring DSL
sucks. Bestweb DSL sucks. The reason I GOT DSL
is because dial-up is too finicky and the transfer
rates suck a load of cum. With DSL, I now have
complete outages, finicky transfer rates, and
router malfunctions. This technology is FAR from
perfected. I am curious as to the problems of
cable modem users in the tristate area.
