My Aunt, who was also my godmother, passed away this morning at 5:00 am. She was diagnosed with Cancer (brain & lung) about 2 years ago. She was fortunate to pass in her sleep without any pain. But she went through some tough times though.
I had seen her at family gatherings every so often, but I was too afraid to ask her personally how she was doing. I found out second hand, about her declining condition, from relatives. About 1 month ago she took a turn for the worse. She was addmitted into a medical facility/home. I just found out it is for people who don't have too much time left.
I never went to visit. I never got to tell her how much I loved her. I never showed I cared. From what my sisters tell me, I am fortunate to have the last memories of her as a smiling, beautiful woman, yet I am upset with myself for not being there when I had the chance.

If it makes you feel any better, just remember that you can talk to her anytime you want to. I know it's not the same as getting to talk to her when she was still alive, but it's never too late to express how you feel and hope that she hears you.

Jewdown, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss - my condolences. Be grateful she didn't suffer at the end, and always keep her in your thoughts and heart - this way, she'll never really be gone. Keep strong.

I'm sorry that you lost your aunt to cancer, I'm sure she knew she was loved. If you go to church or something maybe you can pray to her, since she's in heaven. Well that's what I do, I've lost a lot of people in my life and praying makes me feel close to them in my heart.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It's never easy to deal with the death of someone you love, but with time the pain and sadness you are feeling will stop. It is a really tough thing to get through but just remember that your aunt isn't suffering anymore, she's at peace. Feel better and my condolences to you and your family.

Sometimes even death is a blessing. She is at peace, and nothing else can hurt her now. In time you will be at peace aswell. My condolences.
