Back in the late 60's, some reporters went to Russia to do an article on education in Russia. The commie P.R. people put the dozen smartest kids in the whole country in fron t of the reporters and said that they were just average students. The reporters came back and did a story (I think it was in Time) about how these kids could do advanced math in their heads, name every capitol on earth, etc. and how they were much better educated then our kids. Of course, this was all Cold War paranoia, so the government decreed that all students had to meet a minimum level of education and prove it in a standardized test. The Regents. I will go on record and say that almost all of the teachers I had in high school and college were, for the most part, doing their job. If I failed, it was usually my fault. There were a few that I had in college that just couldn't teach for their lives, and I ended up transferring or dropping classes due to that fact. Regents aren't really that hard, so long as you have some concept of the material. If you take enough of those past exams and drill yourself, you should be able to pass them no problem. As I stated earlier, once I left high school, I might as well have never taken the damn things, as they NEVER did anything for me in college, let alone in my career. My class(2003) is the first to start the new regents policy.You had the choice of a local or regents.I dont.I started Seq 1 when I was in middle school. here are some more changes old-8:15am-2:12pm new 7:30am-2:25pm old 8 periods new 9 periods old-all grades can go out to lunch new-upperclassmen (11-12) can leave by leaving their ID cards at school old- no security new- 1 security officer at every entrance new-video cameras EVERYWHERE! new-I have expended many times for bull shit.
