After reading through the "Bitchfest 2002" thread that is the Flock thread, I was finally able to put my finger on something. I know I don't chime in as much as I used to, but thats because I feel that one should only chime in when absolutely necessary. That is why I'm bringing this up.

I began to think about what really got me riled and excited about the board when I was a member: Mods bitching/fighting/adding gas to the fire/etc.

Threads like Magoo's "Board sociology 101" or whatever the hell it is doesn't help one bit. Same goes with Froy's "My thoughts" thread after the Kid A cluster fuck. And in a sense, neither does this one.

The board isn't going down the crapper(and people like Gonzo, FTL, this is directed to you). What’s making things worse is us writing war and peace responses every time someone starts a goodbye thread, or a "fight the machine" thread. This gives the impression that we're worried that it actually is. Members see this, and try to add to our self inflicted pile on. Members like Maynard, Seph, etc. get off by helping "topple the machine. Much like kamikaze, they don't care if they go out, as long as they go out with a bang which gets our attention.

What’s the answer to this problem? Next time you feel like responding to something which questions management or the boards integrity, don't respond. Next time you feel like starting a "What we can do to make it a better place," (which we are all guilty of) don't start it.

Much like high school, if you ignore the people trying to bully you, they will eventually stop.

The board isn't going down the tube, but the incessant babble about it gives the artificial feeling that it is. It has to stop.

DICK!

(is that better?)

Of all the classes that stand face to face with the bourgeoisie today, the proletariat alone is a genuinely revolutionary class. The other classes decay and finally disappear in the face of Modern Industry; the proletariat is its special and essential product. The lower middle class, the small manufacturer, the shopkeeper, the artisan, the peasant, all these fight against the bourgeoisie, to save from extinction their existence as fractions of the middle class. They are therefore not revolutionary, but conservative. Nay, more, they are reactionary, for they try to roll back the wheel of history. If, by chance, they are revolutionary, they are only so in view of their impending transfer into the proletariat; they thus defend not their present, but their future interests; they desert their own standpoint to place themselves at that of the proletariat. The "dangerous class", the social scum, that passively rotting mass thrown off by the lowest layers of the old society, may, here and there, be swept into the movement by a proletarian revolution; its conditions of life, however, prepare it far more for the part of a bribed tool of reactionary intrigue.

I actually haven't started the board 'improvement' threads. I reply in them but I don't think ignoring the fact will make it go away. I have actually in the last several made cases that the board is the best that it will be and told people to stop making these threads. But to say we're in perfect shape I disagree, I think the threads are pointless since it does nothing but give the whiners a soapbox and piss everyone else off. I am opinionated and will continue to be, like it or not.
