I recently (7 weeks ago) started my first "real" job. (Yes this is one of the reasons I haven't been around in a while) I was doing tons of work a day to catch up for the guy that I replaced (really hadn't done anything in 3 months). I'm ahead of schedule by about a month (for my stupid shit) and the network/computers/etc is all good. I find myself with NOTHING to do for 75% of my day. I can't even FIND anything productive to do. What the hell should I do about it? Anyone in a similar position?

Hey Dough good to see you again bro. As you can see I have some down time at work myself. But 85% of the time I have actualwork to do.

WB Dough :)

It really depends on the week as far as how much work I have to do..I work for the Barbecue Industry (please don't laugh, at least it pays well) so my job is pretty seasonal. May-November, I slack maybe 30% of the day and do 70% of work...December-January, just about 95% of the time

Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door--after that I sorta space out for an hour. Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

So blow our mind and make it lazy
Those long long days with no escaping
I hold the wheel to let it go
Don't wanna stop, don't wanna know
If it gets you down, well just don't blame me

If only we're nothing at all

that quote sums up every job i ever had. actually, i think the whole movie pretty much portrays every job i ever had, well, without the scam part and the burning down part, unfortunately. at the last job i had i didn't even have internet access, so that drove me to getting out, now i waitress, which also has a lot of down time, but when you work, you really work. plus there's the free food and beer and many hours of playing yahtzee, and did i mention beer.

shit, i forgot where i was, oh yeah, well basically, if i'd had internet access, and this board had existed at the time, i probably would've stuck with office work...

Normally I do a lot of work. I hate being bored. Nothing worse. Today I ain't doing a damn thing, since it's my last day.

But on a normal day I try and stay as busy as possible like 85% to 90%.

I work as a security guard as a part time job. Half the time I do nothing but listen to O&A or music, read books and newspapers. Sometimes I try to use my cell phone (though I've been caught once) and I've actually fallen asleep on the job as well :). Talk about taking a job for granted. At least in the fall I can do my HW during downtime.

I work in a Comic Book store. Even the most tiresome job is mildly entertaining. I sit and read comic books and watch movies. Not too shabby i say.

the show i work for is only 2 hours and 40 minutes and in that time my cues take up 23 minutes. so other than some maintenance an hour before the show, i work for 23 minutes a day.
twice that on saturdays and wednesdays.
