| Hanger-On Registered: Aug. 01  | WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A retired Air Force sergeant has been arrested in an espionage investigation, and is expected to be charged in a federal courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia, on Friday afternoon, federal law enforcement sources said. He was identified as Brian Regan, who worked for a government contractor and been assigned to the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), the government agency responsible for designing, producing and fielding U.S. spy satellites, headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia. It has not been disclosed for whom he was allegedly spying or what information he is alleged to have been passing. CNN's David Ensor reported that officials "warned me against the idea that it had directly to do with satellite design," although Regan reportedly had a "very high" security clearance and had access to classified information. Regan, who lives in Bowie, Maryland, was a 20-year veteran of the Air Force. He was arrested Thursday at Dulles International Airport in Virginia as he attempted to board a plane for Europe. FBI agents arrested him at a security checkpoint as he tried to board a Lufthansa flight to Zurich, Switzerland, by way of Frankfurt, Germany. Officials searched his car, his luggage and his home. Regan retired from the Air Force a year ago and was then hired by a government contractor to work at the NRO.
