Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | In order to try to create some order so people don't go nuts looking through 50 posts, i am gonna create several "OFFICIAL" threads so people can post each subject in each seperate thread, to condense the number of posts. If you have a subject you feel i missed please feel free to start an OFFICIAL one like "Official Update Thread" "Official Local Updates" etc etc I really am too tired to post so just go on with it. Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | guess i'll start it off with a little poem about this tragedy and how we must find hope "Now We Are One." On this day, I feared, I cried I hated, I hurt and they think they've won! This wrath of death will not go unheard Let us find the individuals Let us not wait until they are weak, let us hit them now when it can hurt the most. They say "Only the Strong Survive," well America lets show them just how strong we are. We Are One Two very different people Too scared to get along Till two hearts beat together Underneath one sun One very special moment Can turn a destiny And what some would say Could never change Has changed for you and me Cos it's all, it's all in the way you look through your eyes And when all is said and done All of the fear and all of the lies are Not hard to overcome It's all in the way you look at it That makes you strong We were two Now we are one We are two very different people So much to overcome So why care for one another When there's so much to be done Cos sometimes it's necessary Just look how far we've come You could say my friend that It's the end Or a new tale has begun One moment in time Is all the time we need to make a difference To make it better for you and for me Just open your eyes We were two Now we are one "For all we have and are, for all our children's fate, stand up and take the war, the Hun is at the gate!" --- Rudyard Kipling May God Have Mercy On thier Souls. O&A Board Veteran Registered: May. 00 | i just wanted to send a giant thank you out to all those that are doing what we cant. going through rubble and debris, finding bodies and parts of bodies and just keeping right on going with what they are doing. and to those that are finding the miracle of people still living after being buried in rubble for 60+ hours. also a salute to those who perished trying to save others and get them to safety. our country as a whole owes you a great debt of gratitude in this, our toughest time as a nation. we salute you all. thank you and keep up the important work "These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country. but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman-Thomas Paine" Now with a new and improved AIM name. Psychopath Registered: Apr. 01 | Thanks for creating this thread Gonzo. I wasn't sure where to post my thank you before so I ended up just posting it in general discussion. This makes everything a lot less confusing. Anyway, last summer when my grandmother passed away a nun at the wake noticed how upset I was and handed me a piece of paper. That piece of paper had a prayer written on it, and since that day I've carried the prayer with me everywhere I go. I find this prayer so beautiful and it has helped me through so many deaths of friends and loved ones. I hope this prayer can be as beneficial to some of you as it has been to me. If you love me, do not weep, If you only knew the gift of God and what Heaven is! If only you could hear the angels' song from where you are and see me among them! If you could only see before your eyes the eternal fields with their horizons, and the new paths in which I walk! If only you could contemplate for one moment the Beauty that I see, Beauty before which all others fail and fade! Why do you who saw me and loved me in the land of the shadows, why do you think you will not see me and love me again in the land of unchanging realities? Believe me, when death breaks your chains as it has broken mine, when, on the day chosen by God, your soul reaches Heaven where I have preceded you, then you will see her who loved you and still loves you. You will find her heart the same, her tenderness even purer than before. God forbid that on entering a happier life, I should become less loving, unfaithful to the memories and real joys of my other life. You will see me again transfigured in ecstasy and happiness, no longer waiting for death, but ever hand in hand with you, walking in the new paths of light and life, slacking my thirst to the full at the feet of God from a fount of which one never tires, and which you will come to share with me. Wipe away your tears, and if you love me truly, weep no more. Saint Augustine

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Wow TS...thats really amazing. I think the real strength of america, is that in our worst times, the best is brought out of people. Total strangers just helping each other, hoping to find one more person in the rubble. It really makes you think that through all the petty shit that we deal with every day, Americans aren't that different from one another. and thinking's just too much to ask and you're measuring your minutes by a clock thats blinking eights This message was edited by CriticsLoveSnatch on 9-14-01 @ 1:52 AM

Psychopath Registered: Sep. 00 | I was forwarded this poem by a co-worker, figured I'd share it here. As We Move Forward by H. G. "Don" Mercer Copyright © 2001 by H. G. "Don" Mercer Dedicated to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and in the days following from terrorist attacks in New York City, at the Pentagon and in the airplane crash in Pennsylvania When we awoke on Tuesday morning, another day in America so bright; Little did we know that we were in for such momentous and dreadful sights: Explosions and catastrophe, loss of life on that splendid morn; From those who hold our land, indeed our way of life, in such vast scorn! The attacks in New York City, that killed many and brought such ruin; That snatched so many lives, for all too many families and yet all too soon. It's hard to describe the pain and anger, throughout our nation that is now felt; But amongst our hopes today are that fierce blows will soon be dealt. For as long hours now stretch to days, for those valiant attempts at rescue; Our great hope first for the many, now but dwindles to the few. And for those who at the Pentagon, those who work to keep us secure; Along with all too many that day, lives forever changed while families endure: The pain and anguish for those who wait to see if loved ones are alive; While many others died in such circumstances - 'tis not kind to describe. And as we hear of others arrested and some that are now sought; We can only hope that punishment is meted out for what's been wrought. But the grief to many families, of sons and daughters lost; Of fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, husbands and wives - all an untold cost. The damage to our economy and to our freedom dear; Make no mistake about it - Our enemies will soon know fear. Let to those who now have raised, their wrath against us all; Know a sleeping giant has been awakened - America will stand tall! There is nothing quite so sacred, as to our homeland have attacked; And to those radicals both here and abroad - one message: we'll fight back; Stronger than's ever been seen before - for they lit a flame quite dire; One that will burn them and turn their cause into a lost quagmire. Because there's no greater force: Than to live free as we do; As those terrorists on the one plane, they most likely dealt with a few Men and women, who were brave, not at all unlike you and me; Who were willing to sacrifice, as many others have past, for us to continue free! And to those who wish to take from us, our loved ones - Oh, So Dear! I'm certain they'll get the message: That we do not quake with fear. To those who hit on the eleventh of September, using terror as their tool; They'll soon come to learn what we have for them, is far more than just ridicule. I have no doubt we'll stand united, and charge into this fight; As has never been done before in our history, that is long and will grow again bright. And while we're gathering forces and developing our battle plan; Let's learn from our experiences past that have cost too many a man. And if our civil liberties are trimmed a bit, in the long run, for the best; Keep in mind 'tis better than to lose them all, or fail in our just quest. Let's keep our anger aimed correctly, at only those who seek us to kill; And not attack others, who've but come to America, with their hopes and skills; Just as our forebears did before us, many years ago long past; But let's target only those we want - not jump the gun too fast. It's all too easy to paint such terrorists with a stroke all too broad brush; But recall that some of their heritage, also came here to avoid being crushed. In that regard we must remember to move forward with much care; Gain intelligence, form a plan, assemble, attack - but do not spare; The lives of terrorists who've taken from us, but for so short awhile; Our serenity, our way of life - but we'll overcome those vile. And as a veteran, like many others, I humbly do but ask: That mistakes we've made in times before are not repeated from our past; That we tackle this war with commitment - so that America will always last! My hopes are for our country - that we have heard in our land, final blasts. And to those who obviously fantasize that their terror will have such gain; Let's send to them a message clear: Those who died did not do so in vain! Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die. I have posted this before, and felt it would be appropriate to post it again.

Psychopath Registered: Jul. 01 | I have been emailing and calling everyone I know to make sure they and their loved ones are all safe. I got this reply and it pretty much summed up what I've been thinking, as well as most people I know so I wanted to share it....quote: I watched from Rt. 3 near Giants Stadium as the North Tower fell and still do not believe it. 4 days before this all happened I made a trip to unemployment, tracing the usual route I would take to work every day until I was laid off last month. I took the PATH into the Trade Center, got a bagel at Akbar's, where I used to stop every day for breakfast, and walked through the concourse to get outside. On my way back I did some window shopping and sat outside by the bokstore for a bit. Little did I know that 4 days from then it would all be gone. I pray for all those people I used to curse to get out of my way every morning during my commute. I think about all the people who I saw either on the train every day or in the stores on the concourse. I pray for them, for all the people still missing loved ones, and for all the people that are alive in the rubble waiting to be saved. This has to be the most horrific thing I have ever witnessed. And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
