Every so often, I feel the need to spew some words. Here's another one:

New York, New York...I've had so many images and stories (most redudant) slammed into my eyes and ears from the WTC (insert burning buildings), (wave flags), (turn on CNN)...I think I'm gonna puke. Not that I don't believe it was a horrible thing, nor something to ignore, but somewhere between the Friday night Telethon and Sunday's Yankee stadium vigil that had Bette Midler singing, something snapped within me. Just how many situations and emergencies can we use "Wind Beneath My Wings". When do we finally retire that song to the giant "overly done to too many situations, and played too many times" graveyard? It was the song: "Proud to be an American!" that really put the icing on the cake. Can we all sing "Kumbya" next??? Or should we just start humning the national anthem 24/7? I have reached my wit's end with hearing the same songs, words, newscasters monotone drone over and over. How many times must we be assulted with the same words and pictures via any particlular news channel? We are stepping over the line of patriotism, and floating blindly into the realm of nationalism. This nation is just beginning to get propagandized, and it's really starting to piss me off.

"This happens every day in Kasmir," says my Pakistani cabbie, two days after the WTC bombing, (insert burning buildings), (wave flags), (see the news at 11pm) "The threat of terrorism is everyday, and the fighting is very bad."

My cabbie came to America on a work Visa, because Pakistani is so poor, and he's able to make money driving a cab, sending most of the money home, back to Pakistani. He works over 12 hours a day, lives thrifty, and is terribly saddened by the WTC attack. He felt, just as we once did, that America was free of the power struggles of the mid-east.

"Be safe," he says seriously, and sincerely, as I leave the cab. I have a feeling that those words that came from his lips were something he used to say all the time back in Pakistan.

Sometimes we forget what the rest of the world is like. America, is in denial, that the halcyon days of wine and roses are over, and we have descended into the hell that we only heard about when gleaning through the brief headlines and text of the World News pages. America's "special" was the assumption, as we read in disassociated bliss, about the horrors other countries deal with. The next time you watch the news and see the WTC (insert burning buildings), (wave flags), (giant picture of Tom Brokaw's face...ahhhhhh...turn it off!!! turn it off!!!!), start to recognize that denial. And see the level of desperation that is beginning to peek out, as the fabric to the curtains begins to rip away, and show that we are just as vulnerable as anyone else.

NY is not the place I want to be in right now. The vulnerablility, the fear, the fact that this nation was caught so unaware, makes one wonder if it is merely the tip of the iceberg. Or is it that they were successful to a level they never dreamed of, and now that the sleeping giant has now awakened, can we stave off the impending doom? God, I truly hope the latter. This impending doom has truly terrified the herd. Just yesterday, the Broadway show of the Lion King cleared out from actors and audience alike just because of the pop of a speaker going out. And the acrid smell of the burning WTC (insert burning buildings), (wave flags), (NY Times picture of my best-friend crossing Brooklyn Bridge, covered in ash), makes one almost wretch in the knowledge that almost 7000 bodies lie in burning wreckage about 50 or so blocks away to where I write this senseless, meaningless drivel complaining that I don't like being reminded about the WTC (insert the smoldering smoke plumes), (the rescue workers who toil night and day), (firefighters removing the charred bodies of one of their own with tears, care and respect).

I kinda to a piont agree. I like that people are banding together, but what gets me is that right now, we are hearing america and all those songs, and seeing tons of flags, I mean some people are using this tragedy as an excuse to bust out the 4th of July shit and even more. But in a week or two more, it will be gone, The American spirit will fade again, like it always does. Did anyone see Liza singing NY,NY?? She looks like she ate Sally Strothers for Christs sake. We as Americans go overboard for everything. I love the ribbons that a lot of people are wearing right now. They will soon be placed next to the ones they wore for the Drug free and the breast cancer awareness and all the other ones. I'm all for America and all that, but the heros are the ones that are working now to see what is still buried. The heros are the ones who died saving lives. What the F does having Bette sing Wind beneath my wings 20 times really do???

Currently both of my positions are empty. If you are interested in adoption, IM me Or E-Mail Me

I must remember to bend down at first base.
