Ok, I missed most of what happened in this thread, and reading 99 posts just isn't possible right now, but I feel like throwing in my point of view.
I know I haven't been here very long, but I have definitely come to love this place. I guess I'm one of those newbies who decided to stick around, to some people's consternation. This place definitely provides me a diversion from work during the day, and for the most part I have no complaints. Granted, I wasn't around during the "heyday", so I can't compare now and then, but I still think this is a great place.
But...
I will say that the most fun I've had on this board in the past four months was the "factioning". Everything that week made me laugh. The HLJC v. The C-Blockers, the C-Blockers v. Socialists, blah blah blah. It was a fucking blast. It only stopped being fun when people started taking it WAY TO FUCKING SERIOUSLY. That, in essence, may be the only problem I can see right now. Even various people's turns in the barrel are all in good fun and most people know this. But there are time when the fun seems to come to a screeching halt and people get sensitive.
I don't how much weight anything I say has, and frankly, I don't give a shit. But I will say that I don't plan on going anywhere, and I hope most people feel the same way. Unfortunately for me, being one of the few (and maybe the first) DC members, I miss out on the the board get togethers and events, but I still feel that sense of community. Honestly, I came here because I wanted to see what the O&A fans were like before they were even aired in DC. After a couple days, I knew I would love the show just based on what I saw here.

My thoughts....people need to back the fuck up, relax and stop taking shit to heart. Learn to take sarcasm and joking for what it is. Things change but that's life.

quote:

but stop the cliques.some are big, well known, like the slackers

Yeah, that's a clique. We're Elitists don't yah remember???? One person makes reference, sorry Hosp, about having a "Slacker" party and people think it's a clique??? Talk about being childish...not sure who started that, but it was major fucking bull shit.

It was said in SC's opening statement.....

quote:

there will be absolutly no reprecussions for you voicing your opinion here and it stays here as well

Then Slash made a response to PB's post
quote:

Remember that advice, your advice the next time you bitch about shit.

and
quote:

For someone who bitched and fucking moaned that she would never come back to chat and that you would leave oa.com unless I removed an addition that I added to your status that was a dig at myself NOT at you, you have a LOT of fucking nerve to spout that shit. Take your own advice and seek help!

Could a regular old member ever say that to a mod with out reprecussions??? Don't think so.

I feel certain people, whether it be a mod or an influential member, have the ability to attack others witout fear of consequence because of who they know. Am I wrong?

You'll always have people coming and going. People have their lives to live. The key is to have fun while you're here.

Drunken GW, you have no idea where the origin of my statements came from and I am not going to tell you either. I will just quote myself -

quote:

I have never personally acknowledged the nicey nice attitude when I posted nor do I bash unnecessarily

Take that for what it's worth.

Have a nice day :)

EDIT - You quoted Sean

quote:

there will be absolutly no reprecussions for you voicing your opinion here and it stays here as well

There has been no reprecussions, which include, but not limited to, status changes, strikes, threat of bannings or anything. In fact, if you must know, it has been all cleared up.

Slash, no need to know at all. I was just pointing out the fact that someone expressed an opinion to the topic and you berated them. Whatever situation arose with you and PB didn't have to be brought in here did it?

If you knew you'd understand, but you don't so lets BOTH just drop it.

I mean where were you when Sean was berating BrokenJaw? BrokenJaw was just expressing an opinion, correct? Did you ask him, "whatever situation arose with you and BJ didn't have to be brought in here did it"? No you didn't. There are a select few reasons as to why you didn't. Think about it.

If you want to further this conversation, I will see you in chat sometime, PM me. I am done with it in this thread / on this board.

Well I'm really new here although I lurked before I posted. I check in here to see if there are any interesting discussions going on, and usually I just read and don't post mainly because I feel like I don't exist here anyway so why bother posting. Yeah, I know, be funnier...I'm working on it. I do like it here though because it's entertaining. I also think 9/11 has had an affect, and that's why there are more news type posts (yes, I'm guilty of this, sorry, it won't happen again). I'll keep coming here, and hopefully I'll get to know some of you better. I think as you get to know people more, the more fun it becomes. No, I didn't really have a point, just a perspective from someone new.

I think whats being lost here is what exactly people think makes this a good board. Everyone has their own opinion on what that means.

These are what i've observed in this thread as to what people use as a way to determine the state of the board...

  • number of members
  • frequency of posts
  • quality of posts regardless of quantity
  • how those in charge treat the members
  • how those in charge have personally treated them
  • consistancy of policies and how they are enforced
  • dissatification with the 'nicey-nice' policy

The fact of the matter is, alot of people who wish the nicey-nice policy abolished likely only want it lifted for those who have a certain 'status'. We all know that you can't just say anything you want to anyone you want here with certain repercussions. I'm all for lifting it as long as its not for the privledged few.

All in all, I think the board needs a jolt, some kind of spark that will some kind of influx of creativity. Its really up to us to figure out what that is.

I dont think there's anything wrong with oa.com, but rather, there's somethin wrong with the people. I dont mean that people on oa.com suck, but im saying that they're hard to please. I've met a few people here, and they're all really nice, but that's only in chat or im. When you post, it's a different story. It's either, "go get adopted deek," or "Die, get in the coffin." we're all too stuck up. We've all put oursevles on pedistools. We all think too highly of ourselves. We need to come back down to oa.com, and get our heads outa the clouds. I used to love this place. I used to lurk for hours. And most of it would be in GD. But after a while, it wasnt fun no more. I didnt feel like i belonged. When i say belonged, i dont mean fifty ppl from oa.com im'n me. I mean, newbies dont get tooled anymore, they get adopted, for ten days. When i got tooled, JBN told me that they were all jus jokin, and that it was like a "right of passage." I still love oa.com. I jus dont like some of the people is all.

I still wonder if all of this kvetching about the board doesn't come back to the fact that things are a little different on the show itself (you remember that right, the Opie & Anthony show?)

Also, so many of the things that have played out on this board, from my estimation anyway, are a simple natural extension of the medium. Many of you folks communicate with each other outside of the various forums via IM or e-mail or whatever.

I kind of dig that I just communicate through my messages. Whatever I contribute (if anything) it's all above board. Everyone's here for something different obviously, and maybe some of the off-board discussions are best left there, but I also wonder if we shouldn't just focus more on posting to the board.

I would like to see more posts in General Discussion about the show, I am sure that a lot of people would.

There are complaints that we've seen regarding the post-syndication era (Syndication D'OH?) and it really is a different show now, but I still think the boys are still getting their legs and making the show good for the long term.

Maybe by talking about the show more, in our small part we'll make the show better?

At various points, folks from the show read and post here (Anthony, Norton, etc.), but always remember that people involved in the show could be reading what you're saying. No, that doesn't mean pander to them and get star-struck, but just be conscious of that. I am sure that everyone's opinion about the show is appreciated good or bad, how about we try to do some more of that?

I like the fact that in this topic people are actually spending the time to think about what it is they want to say and are not afraid to type to say it. There are a lot of intelligent folks on this board, I'd like to see the quality of posts exceed the quantity and have more threads like this one with a lot of thought behind them.

And finally, could we get a TV AND MOVIES forum??? Is that too much to ask?

People being attacked is the reason why I don't come here much anymore. I know there is a lot of sarcasm on this board, and most of it's just a joke BUT I have watched it get way to personal with people, watched supposed friends turn on each other. The groups don't help much either. One person from the right crowd starts and there are quickly people there to jump on the bandwagon. It makes no sense to me, most of you are friends. I guess what did it for me was at the last softball game. It was coming down to the wire and someone actually came up with a place that would let us drink and play. That person got pounded all day. Another person brought food and contributed a lot to the picnic and I heard nothing but people making fun of her. It's just a bit fucked up in my book. They went beyond what any of us wanted to. It's funny, the people that do most of the attacking on this board are FAR from perfect!! One day one person doesn't like you, the next day no one does. Great place!!??

I have thought long and hard about what to say here. I could babble on and on, but I will spare you all.

Cut the petty bullshit, if you have a personal problem with some on specific on the board, keep it off the board, no one wants to see your dirty laundry, so to speak, and frankly neither do I.

Old members who have left aren't coming back. Things will never be the way they used to be, as much as I would like them to be, its not going to happen.

Change is ever-present, adapt and move on. Its really not that hard if you really try.

...and it's bad

i guess i'm an open book
you know i didn't really intend
to embrace you that long

When I joined the board, there were fewer than 5,000 members. All gathered in one place because we enjoyed this one little local radio show hosted by a couple of local clowns. In the year or so since I've joined, a lot of shit has changed.....they're syndicated nationally, and we, those who choose to represent them here have grown to over 14,000 members (duplicate memberships included).

Back then, there were about 40 or so of us who posted regularly, and we were all pretty much on the same page. We were edgy, sarcastic, funny, disgooosting, but just here to have a good time. If a person was being a tool, you could call them on it without worrying about them running to a Mod like a kid (not K1d) runs to mommy. If have the newbies around now ever saw GD, or a day in the life....they'd probably soil themselves and run to the hills...but damn, those were some of the best laughs I've ever had.

Some of the shit that bugs me now:
People who worry about post count. Besides the fact that I can't believe people still worry about it, what the fuck does that prove? If you make quality posts, that's great. If you post bullshit just to get your count up, then maybe you don't belong here. That's not up to me to decide.

People who whine about their status - just deal with it! We've all had statuses under our names that have made us cringe. You know what..life goes on, and last I checked, your oa.com status doesn't translate into the real world.

Use Fight Club, that's what it was established for. Got a beef with someone, just take it there. Besides, haven't had any good ones lately and the Milk Duds are getting stale ova here, and I think Spit put the grill away too soon.

Politicing and posturing - this is a message board people, not the House Appropriations Committee! What's the fucking point? Just post and have a good time and stop worry about who's ass you can kiss.

VG said something that I think is really important and insightful, even if she is a meanie :-)

Let me explain briefly what you apparently don't know or have forgotten:

The person who got the field waited until last minute and when “he” finally got the field “he” told some people, who are close to Froy, that they wished Froy would remember “his” good deed when it came time for him to pick a new mod.

The person who bought the food wanted to charge everyone, including you, $5. That's ridiculous considering the first softball game everyone bought tons of food and we all shared and NO ONE charged anyone or even considered turning a profit on it.

There's the difference.

If some humor regarding drool or faella is what stopped you from posting here then maybe you shouldn't be here to begin with and come to think of it maybe you shouldn't be listening to O&A. Drool and faella humor turn you away from the board? I wonder if you turn your radio off when poor Patty gets slammed over and over again for being simple minded and for not having enough money to go and sport the latest in fashion? Or let me guess, because you don’t know Patty on a personal level it makes it okay, right?

Don’t be a hypocrite.

Actually that is inaccurate. He did not wait until the last minute. He had been trying since the day it was announced. The delay of finding a field is that every field he tried that was still available didn't allow alcohol. He had the field booked at least 5 days in advance which is pretty good seeing as the game was only announced 2 weeks before the date of the event.

The rest of the story is unfortunatly true.

Since we're getting on topic of the softball game. He was borderline begging me to let him get the field when he over-heard me mention it at Bar 9. He was bragging that he could get us any field he wanted in any county, so I told him to knock himself out. Let me drop this issue on a final note... Drool and faella always funny.

drool of faella? who the hell are they? i thought i was just stating why i don't post here anymore. didn't know MY opinion was a debateable issue. my main point is that i have seen friends turn on friends and that truly sucks. i'm not singling out anyone so why take it personally?
