I think its kinda nice people are spending less time in front of a computer and spending more time with their friends and family.

by the way, this board has always had its ups and downs. unfortunately, with the amount of members we supposedly have, you really wouldn't think it would slow down. i do remember that last year around this time, the board also slowed to a crawl as people headed back to college/school and were getting settled. maybe that's the case, i don't know.

Last year at this time the board was the complete opposite of how you just described it. It was the post bang party mayhem of assf newbies looking to get laid. It was at that time the board was being plugged on O&A all the time. It was at that time that if you left the board for 2 hours you were completely lost at what was going on.

It was post bang party, pre A day in the life, Ground Control, and Using the board while working.

It was a time when the board was in a trasition from the Pioneering stage to the Critical Mass stage. Last winter/spring was the Stability stage. Now finally we are in a stage of Saturation. This is the stage where growth has leveled off to the point of almost zero interest. A stage that the attrition rate is higher than the recruitment rate.

It is not a "dry spell". Nor is it a something we can blame external factors such as Summer, 9/11, school, World Series Baseball games, holidays etc...

It's a time to look in the mirror and blame ourselves. Sure it's just a message board, or a community as others like to put it, but if you all care enough to post excuses about why it's like this(in hopes that it will fix itself) then how about being proactive on the board and doing what you can to change it for the better?

While I agree that people should be proactive, I don't think we should be overzealous. Posting loads of inane threads won't put the board in any better condition. I think the key is participation. Don't like a thread, say so, crack on it, flame it. Like a thread, post your approval, and accolades. Just freaking post!

You need to git up, git out and git somethin

Actually, thats a great point. it's better than the "It's Just a Messageboard" excuse everytime you flame a thread.

While I agree that replies are important, isn't it counterproductive to post just for the sake of posting? If the majority of board members know that, when they click on a topic, the majority of replies are inane dribble, they probably won't click on the topic to begin with. I am kind of a case in point here. My post count is low, but I've been a member who checks the board every day for some time. The reason I don't have as many posts as Gonzo? Because the majority of the threads aren't in need of a response, either because my opinion has already been said, or the thread is ponderous in and of itself. There's no reason to think that if there are not at least fifty posts a day on this messageboard that it is going downhill. Furthermore, a lot of members still think they will receive a severe backlash if there post is not of the mindset of the regular users of this board. That has always been a continuous "problem." The board is here to serve a purpose- to inform people about the O&A show, give people a place to vent, and gather people together to talk about other various topics. And I still feel it suceeds at this objective.
