O&A Board Veteran Registered: May. 00 | When I first heard that Josh Whedon was doing a musical episode of Buffy I shuddered. Nothing good can come from this I thought. Well I was glad to see I was wrong. It wasn't a pointless, stand alone episode, but an episode that continued the storylines from this season and will inevitably cause repercussions throughout the rest of the season. For those that didnt see it, basically what can best be described as a "dancing-entertaining-demon" from hell was summoned by one of the "scooby gang" and the whole town of Sunnydale burst into songs about everything. The catch was that in these songs, they beared their true feelings about issues. Now while it sounds like a stupid premise, it was brought off very well. The songs were well done, included comedy in them and made sense in the context of the show. The Xander and Anya duet, where they are running off each other's faults was classic. And it furthers the season very nicely, Willow is looking more and more like this season's villian, she's using too much magic for her own good. Spike finally told Buffy his feelings for her and in the end they kissed, what that means for the rest of the season could be anything. And now the gang finally knows that they brought Buffy back from Heaven and not Hell which they thought. This should be interesting to see the way in which they all deal with her now that they know what really happened. The first shoe is seemingly dropping next week where Giles is seen to be leaving Buffy and the gang. Will it happen? We will have to tune in next week to see. All in all it was a very good episode, maybe the best of the season. If that's what they have to resort to to continue storylines, then they have truly run out of ideas. I am still retching everytime I think about last night's episode. O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 01 | I must agree with Face. I truly thought Buffy was done the first time I saw the commercial for the episode. I started watching it expecting it to suck. But they brought it off quite well. A couple of the numbers were really good. And the cast has vocal talents....(Xander excluded) It does still trouble me that they might try more gimmicks in the future.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 00 | Last season when they introduced Dawn, I thought "How the hell do they explain this crap? Buffy's an only child! It's been that way since day one!" But then the truth came out and we saw what a story telling geius Whedon is. That's when I stopped doubting his choices. Now, normally I hate musicals. I thought the musical episodes of Xena were crap fests. But last nights Buffy was great! The songs were generally well done. (Spike's Billy Idol type song was great.) And, like Face said, a lot of issues that have been building up cam out last night and next week the characters have to deal with the truth. (Willow's look of pained disbelief at the end was priceless.) This was a great, well rounded episode. I'm only pissed that when they show it in re-runs, they will have to cut EIGHT WHOLE MINUTES out of somewhere! We'll have to wait for this season to be released on DVD before we can see the un-cut version again. Edit : And how could I not mention Anya's BUNNY SONG. Think Anya singning like Alice Cooper about how evil bunnies are!! This message was edited by Arthur Dent on 11-7-01 @ 10:20 AM

Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | I thought the episode totally sucked. It was nothing more than an attempt to win an Emmy award. Yes, some parts of it were great (the bunny song, Tara's floating orgasm, and the Billy Idol bit), but for the most part who cares about a damn musical episode?? It was royally gay. It sucks that they had to put so many of the plot twists and issues in there to make it watchable. Buffy revealed that she was relaly in heaven when she died, Spike and Buffy kissed, Giles expressed how he feels he's nothing but a roadblock for buffy, and Xander and Anya's problems in committing to a marriage. All would have been great to put in regular episodes. It's a shame quote: Yes it was, talk about weird. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that. I don't know about that show anymore. First season was alright and had a lot of promise. Second season was better, but still didn't fulfill the potential for this show. Season three is BORING!! It went from a potentially good (I got hooked because it's produced by Jonathan Frakes and it's about aliens) to another Dawson's Crap/Felishitty show. And Smallville isn't that great either. It's a wannbe Buffy complete with cheap Scooby Gang rip-off.

O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | I'm insecure to admit I watch buffy in public but from the three episodes of Smallvlle I've seen I think it's not the WORST show but it's not that good. The Lana chick is attractive but a lot of it is just too much like a typical teen angst show without any of the wit and depth of Buffy. The only worthwhile thing is Luthor who is pretty interesting but having them know each other messes up some continuity. Also lose blonde girl and Blander. they add nothing.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | I'd like to relieve the gayness of this thread by adding a woman's point of view. I thought Buffy was great, but I agree that the need for it to be a musical was nil. There were too many shockers (ie~Buffy/Spike kiss, Buffy revealing being pulled from Heaven, etc.) to have it seem Whedon was comfortable with his ability to pull off a musical. Not to say I didn't love it to death. quote: Buffy jumped the Shark when Angel left, but came back with Spike's re~entry. I think this final season will be the best ever. If they decide to continue Buffy without Buffy, I hope they get a slayer who dresses like Sporty Spice. I could never understand why Buffy wears heels on patrol in a grassy cemetary and tight jeans to do spinning back kicks in.
