Just saw on NBC that osama finally has nukes. Do you all think he really does, and if so what do y'all think about it? Personally, I think we should hit them first before they hit any of our troops, or allies.

NIGGA PLEASE , if you're gonna spread 'information' try to be accurate.

bin Laden 'claims' to possess nukes, and states he will use 'it' if we them first.

yea good idea squid, let's nuke the bastards first and call this guy's bluff, that sounds so plausible. goddamn, think more often, even if bin Laden only has one nuke, if it hits any major city in the U.S. that and the surrounding area for miles would be uninhabitable for years and years. NO ONE wants nuclear war, i dont even think he does, cuz we all know thats pretty much it for everyone...

That could be true...it's now been confirmed that Mazar-e Sharif has fallen to the Northern Alliance. That is a major victory in our war. It opens, in the near future, a corridor for troops and supplies from Uzbekistan and it means solid reinforcement during Ramadan (we can allegedly abstain from attacking during their holy "holiday").

As for nukes, I heard recently that Osama tried to get them, but was unsuccessful. Then again, what do I know...ask OASwallow...);

Prior to this interview by bin Laden I very much thought that there was a good chance that he may have a very small nuclear arsenal and that they may very well be "suitcase nukes" which several ex-Soviet generals have said there are more than 60 unaccounted for.

I was worried mostly because if Al Queda did manage to secure these through its dealings with the Russian mafia, they would be much easier to detonate than if these camel jockies had to make their own device. Basically suitcase nukes will work all too well.

However, now that bin Laden CLAIMS to have nuclear weapons I'm much more inclined to think that he's full of shit for some reason. This claim actually put my mind at ease.

I'm starting to believe that even though he devised a system of cells, that system has had the shit kicked out of it by the numerous round ups of suspicious folks with INS violations.

Thankfully, this "war on terrorism" does seem as though it's turning our way. This is not to be complacent because that's a worry too, but I think we've definitely got an upper hand now and hopefully that means that the nuclear threat is lessened.

hmm, the American news media can't get any real information on whats going on in Afghanistan, but they manage to get this little nugget. If bin Laden actually had nuclear arms, we wouldn't know about it.

thats why I think this kind of information gets leaked. get the American citizens blood boiling, keep up the attacks, W's approval rating stays sky high.

Uhh, okay, let's re-examine a couple of lines from the Reuter's Wire Service story once again, shall we?

"I wish to declare that if America used chemical or nuclear weapons against us, then we may retort with chemical and nuclear weapons. We have the weapons as deterrent," the newspaper quoted bin Laden as telling a well-known Pakistani journalist in Afghanistan on Wednesday night.

Dawn said Hamid Mir, editor of Pakistan's Ausaf newspaper, had interviewed bin Laden, prime suspect in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, after being taken blindfolded by jeep from Kabul on November 7.

So... how is this some sort of propaganda tool of the United States, or some sort of "leak" to the American media?

It's a Pakistani publication, doing an "exclusive" interview, and the wire picked up pieces of it. It's certainly newsworthy.

If you want to complain about the American media, the only legitimate beef anyone could have with them is that they've been used as a propaganda tool of the TALIBAN by reporting falsehoods on casualties and supposed shoot-downs of US military vehicles.

I guess now that Nader has finally shown his true colors and tried to spin the murderous attacks of September 11th into a "powergrab" by right-wing politicians and big corporations that his followers are forced to follow suit.

Whatever.

Just ask yourself what the fuck Ralph Nader and his band of left-wing ne'erdowells would have done A) to prevent Sept. 11 and B) to retaliate for Sept. 11

I suspect Nader's first order of business would have been to file a lawsuit against the WTC building owner for not having airbags to catch jet planes.

Sigh.

Sure, so now we are to believe that he may have nukes, but that was what we feared all along.
I am just scepticle when this info comes out in the press in interview format. On film like we saw before was one thing, but in print it can just be fabricated.

And just because we are holding people on INS violations, remember that he has many more agents across the globe, most of which are in England and Germany, who are our allies in this. We have to hope, and help these countries to capture more of his group if we are to end this "War on Terrorism"

I doubt they have nuclear weapons because they would have probably used them already.

But if bin Laden is somehow not lying this time and indeed does have nuclear weapons he will use them eventually even if we don't use them first. The U.S. eventually will come close to ending Al-Qaida and as a last gasp, they will attack us with what they have.

A simple solution that some have surmised is to simply "call his bluff" and launch a large scale nuclear assault. But if we just wait a while and let our intelligence try and redeem itself we can disrupt any retaliatory plots of destroying our cities if indeed they do have these weapons. And if they do, nuking them will be replied by them nuking us when perhaps our Intelligence can discover these weapons if we give them a few more weeks.

So heed the presiden'ts warning. It's going to be a long war, and for very specific reasons.

EXACTLY. The American media only "picks up" the foreign stories that will feed the bloodthirsty fire in this country. Not a word is mentioned about the risk of mass starvation, the lack of supplies, the lack of medical attention Afghan citizens need. The Pakistani papers, and even some European papers cover this major story, but you'll have to sit in front of Brian Williams or Dan Rather for years before you hear a mention of this. So don't give me this shit about the American media being unbiased and fair. They are picking and choosing what stories to put on. Don't think for a second that every bit of news isn't cleaned and spun to sound like everything is going great in this war.

Well, I'm glad you got the real scoop on the casualites there, Wolf Blitzer. When did you get back from Afghanistan? I agree that the Taliban may be exagerating about the number of their civilain casualites, but our government is lying too.

If you want to support tax breaks for major corporations, be my guest. Its your right. I just don't see why more attention isn't paid to seeing that the 1/2 million people who have lost thier jobs are taken care of. Maybe if they had paid millions of dollars to get W elected, like these corporations did, they would be heard. If I don't have any sympathy for some CEO at AT&T, or Microsoft, or IBM, than I guess I'm just cold hearted. Fucking Christ, some people really don't get it.

You know I'm the first person to admit that the government lies, covers up things especially during war time and that the corporations and the government are closely intertwined... but you're yelling at people for supporting tax breaks for corporations yet you're the first person I've seen in this thread mention tax breaks for corporations. I don't support it nor do I support the multiple layoffs but your bringing in an issue that has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

No they don't. Plain and simple. If they had them, they would have used them by now. I have said this before, since September 11th, there has not been one terrorist attack, anywhere in the world (the events in Israel are not calculated terrorist attacks but more like street gang battles). If the terrorists had the ability to strike, they would have by now as a symbol of a battle victory in the war against terrorism.

The thousands of sleepers and cells around the world do not exist in thousands but hundreds. And as of now they have no access to funding or communications. If they try to raise their heads, they will be noticed.

The war in Afghanistan is about over. The Taliban cannot fight and cannot survive the air campaign. As of today, the alliance forces have the Taliban on the run and are ready to march into Kabul. Any military expert will tell you, when you have the enemy on the run, crush them. But Dubya has warned the alliance, do not move on Kabul. God forbid we move in before a government is formed. They haven't had a functional government for 6 years. But we can't end the war too soon now can we? Ol beard boy bin Laden will be flushed out and killed, but only when it is convenient for us.

So what are we worried about? Dubya has a problem. This war like his daddy's war may end too soon. He needs to find another battlefront. If Dubya doesn't have a war come November 2004, he probably will not get re-elected. The nation will be in a horrible recession and the federal deficit will be huge due to all of the bailouts of airlines, the Postal Service and other corporations. Unemployment rates will be in excess of 9% and the country will be in chaos. Dubya needs the war to keep people focused away from the real problems. Have you not been rallying behind his "let's roll" campaign?

So who’s next? Iraq? The Sudan? Whoever it is, the "coalition" will fall apart and this mess will isolate much of the world against the US. We will be in a defensive posture for many years to come.

Actually many could argue that the media are U.S. government tools in this war. I've watched a lot of tv and a only random times did I hear about the Northern Alliance being just as bad as the Taliban. Geez I thought this was the most free and critical media in the world.

The media in this country is a joke. They don't do jack shit in finding the truth.

To soothe your fears a bit
WASHINGTON, Nov 11 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell dismissed Osama bin Laden's claims that he has nuclear weapons and might use them as a "wild boast and threat" and said America would not use nuclear force against him.

But Powell, speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press," said he had no idea whether the man accused in the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States possessed chemical or biological weapons.

"I have no way of knowing, but I think it unlikely that he has any nuclear weapons," Powell said on the morning talk show, calling the assertion, "a wild boast and threat."

"I can't say about chemical and biological. But this is the kind of threat that this evil person likes to toss around."
