Have you guys noticed any security step-ups in the buildings that you work in?

Apparently the demand for security guards must be outstripping the supply rather rapidly because all the extra security in my building seems to be AWFUL.

Are you getting hassled on your way into the building? Having bags searched, etc. etc.? It sounds like this is going on a lot of places, and my experiences seem to echo those of the boys.

My concern is this - these people are NOT TRAINED. They all suck, frankly. A good half of them seem to be speaking either Swahili, Russian or Urdu to each other and have little or no grasp of the English language. I'm starting to think these security companies just go down to INS offices and start plucking out "qualified candidates."

The guards we had before were bad enough, usually averaging about 84 years old and sleeping through half their shift, but at least those guys were usually retired cops or military guys and might have some idea of what bad guys look like and where they might smuggle things in.

I'd love to hear WNEW's own security guard extraordinaire, Jimmy Walker on the air with the boys answering some good questions about security.

Like hide some stuff in a lunch bag and see if he can find it, ask him to point out which item is a bomb (throw in the cannon ball with the wick just for kicks).

Hey I don't want to see Jimmy J.J. Walker canned over this or anything, but it would probably be funny radio and would expose the SHAM that is the security companies are trying to foist upon us that basically inconveniences all us law-abiding workers while anyone who really wanted to get anything into a place of business could totally do it with very little ingenuity.

Aren't these types of security guards one of the reasons Sept. 11 was allowed to happen?

I would consider it a public service :)

It's just not building security that seems out of control.

A few weeks ago, I wandered into the Disney store on 42nd Street. The rent-a-cop motioned to me that my knapsack needed to be checked (I was wearing my Walkman, but I understood his sign language). I said OK, did a 180 degree turn to look for another 'guard'. I didn't see one until I looked down...they had a F'ing midget/dwarf checking for bombs/antrax/whatever.

Security has really changed in my building. They were checking all our bags on the way in at 9 Am. They had the balls to send a note the day before the mandatory checks started to tell us from then on we should get there a little early, so that the checks wouldnt make us late to our "positions". Can you believe that bullshit? I could understand security checks in allot of work places but we cant get in without an electronic ID card ( Been that way for a year), everything is on camera, and many of the people in my office have been working there for 20 + years. It pissed allot of people off. We even went to the union but they said it was something they couldnt stop. I have nothing to hide, but when some fat fucking old security guard is looking through my bag with all my personal shit it gets a little annoying.

These "guards" just suck though, it's as though they have NO training at all.

And God forbid that they hire anyone who is actually physically intimidating. I estimate that if I were to go ape shit it would take at least six of these scrawny little things to do anything to me.

Let's just say it doesn't put your mind at ease.

I can't help but be pissed at these guys though, I have already asked what it is they think they're looking for.

THEY DON'T EVEN FUCKING KNOW!!!

They check my lunch bag, but don't bother to check the bulge in my pocket (wocka wocka) that is just sunglasses and keys, but could be a firearm. And they're satisfied with a passing glance of my lunch bag?

I dunno, if anything it makes me feel LESS safe!

i went to 3 different malls in jersey over the last week, and there was no one there checking bags. there were no guards that i saw near any doors. i think that a shopping mall is a bigger concern than an office building. no offense to anyone in ofice buildings, but they're not going to target your office necassarilly. but i agree, we are lacking trained guards here.

Thats pretty fucking funny, I Think If I did that the pound of bacon he had every morning on his "Egg" sandwich would kick in. Then I would probably be blamed for his "pork fat induced demise".

My building went to ID cards last month. Previously it had just been walk right in. There were guards, but I guess they were just looking for "suspicious" types. Anyway, we have these cards now, and we show them to the guard as we walk to the elevators, but I think they're just checking for the existence of the card, because there's no way he's seeing what the picture looks like in the 2 seconds I have it out. I hope it's not that way if he sees a face he doesn't recognize, but who knows...?

Those rent a cops are there to provide a facade of, well, security. In actuality I could walk in to my place of work with a fucking tank in my bag and noone would know the difference. When you think about it for a second or two you realie what a fucking joke it is.
