I know, I know I was lambasted in the past when I started a film thread everyweek and I think i've held back quite a bit. but the last movie that seemed to spark a thread was Harry Potter (well Mullholland Drive) and there are other movies out there and, you know, I was what people thought about current films.

Spy Game- this is one of the few quality movies out there that's in mass release. The ending's a bit contrived and requires a lot of suspension of belief but the majority of the movie is quite good. The trainign scenes are excellent. This is really Redford's movie and it definitely worked for me. Also Redford has an awesome car. does anyone knows the type of car he drives? 3/4 stars

Waking Life- pretenious film gained notoriety because of unconventional animation. people talk about philsopohy for an hour and a half, 80% of it is uninteresting. They do have the occasional interesting comments but all in all very disappointing and very unsatisfying. 2/4 stars.

Man Who Wasn't There- damn fine Coen Brothers not their best but still worth a watch. a little long but good performances. Tony Shaloub steals the show, unfortunately more people will see him in the horrid 13 Ghosts. 3/4 stars.

Ghost World- i don't know why but this movie definitely hit me more than i thought it would. 4/4 stars.

MOvies I want to see but haven't seen: Donnie Darko, Novocaine, maybe Shallow Hal

Hmm, now where would you rank "The Man Who Wasn't There" in relation to the more recent Coen brothers movies (O' Brother, Big Lebowski, Fargo, etc.)

It seems like everyone's got a different take on Joel and Ethan so I always like to know the context of the review, know what I mean?

I think brad pitt is one of the finest actors of our generation. It took me a while to warm up to him. I didn't like him even in movies like interview with a a vampire or river runs through it. But I first really noticed him as a fine actor on Kalifornia and then he blew me away in se7en and 12 monkeys and then fight club. Plus I heard spy game was a really good movie so I am looking forward to seeing it.

A River Runs Through It, is one of the best movies ever. One of the only movies to inspire me to read the book.. well novella.. that plus it was only about 106 pages. Maybe that had something to do with it heheh

Last movie i saw was Life as a House. Even though it was very American Beauty-esque, it was still good. Well, i though so anyway. Just my 11 cents.

I went to see Sidewalks of New York this weekend, but we missed it, so I ended up seeing Shallow Hal...the movie had its funny moments, but it really wasn't so great...

A river runs through it is an excellent movie, and a true masterpiece. But his performace while very good really didn't catch my eye cause I just thought of him as another Dicaprio. Cause Dicpario gave one of the best performances I have ever seen from an actor in Gilbert Grape but then just lamed out. But now I take it back on behalf of Brad Pitt and have a great deal of respect for him.

Edward Norton on the other hand was someone I knew was gonna make it big especially with his first major performance being "Primal Fear" which was just mind blowing and he gave a tour de force performance. Then with films like larry flint and american history x and fight club he is trully an exceptional actor.

Hey slashy you know that Deniro named Edward Norton as the best actor of this era, does that null him out now?

"Spy Game" scares me off because one of the trailers claims "from the director of 'Enemy of the State,'" which was HORRIBLE!

Perhaps it was the fact that Jerry Bruckheimer was the producer.

I just realized that no movie has moved me to action since the start of the semester in September. I just haven't seen a trailer or heard buzz sufficient to get me out of the house. I do want to see "Novocaine," though.

I thought Spy Game would have been much better if it was about 20 minutes shorter. There was a period where the movie just seemed to drag on. Other than that, I liked it and it is recommended.

FSA, what are you talking about, Enemy of the State was an awesome movie. That is my favorite Will Smith movie. The end was the best where he set up Jon Voight against the mafia in a bloodbath gunfight.

The movie I cannot wait to see comes out this week. Behind Enemy Lines with Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman. This movie looks awesome.

You fuckin roon'd it deek.

I saw 'Hairy Potter' this weekend. It kinda sucked. It was certainly overhyped.

All I'm looking forward to is "Lord Of The Rings". Also on the horizon is the new Batman directed by Darren Aronofsky. Not for awhile, but I can't wait for that. Even though I hate the Batman series, he is such a great director.

It was a porsche 911 I believe. And you are dead on with your review. It was a pretty good movie. Not the best I've seen this year, but among the top 5 at least.

You don't mind if I don't take your approval of this movie, do you? I mean, the fact that your guilty pleasure is either BSB, N'SYNC or both leaves me a bit weary on what entertainment advice I should extract from you. :);):)

Donnie Darko (did you think I'd let this one sit): Great movie that could have used a much better ending. Confusing, a little but the two hours flew by. Very good debut effort from the writer/director but could have been cleaned up, we see that Bubble Boy can actually act. 2 hours flew by. An innteresting, more surreal bookend with Ghost World. 3.75/4.

Figured i'd bring this back up for further discussion.

I was looking forward to seeing "ali". Until I saw the preview on TV. In the promotions will smith looked like ali, but when you see the promo he looks too much like will smith and doesn't really resemble ali in anyway nor does he even try to change his voice for ali's distinctive way of talking and sounding, plus he seems to be overplaying the part. I hope I am wrong naturally cause the only other movie about ali is "the greatest" where ali actually played himself but the movie was a bomb. Will smith has the energy to play the overly exhuberent ali but I hope he didn't overdo it.

That theater is a great one, Ikea.
They're always showing some classic there, from all different eras. And their current run selection is great, too, because it usually is stuff you won't find at a plex and it's good for foreign films, too.
