Just heard this on the news. George Harrison died at a friends house yesterday in L.A. at 1:30 in the afternoon. His wife and 24 year old son were by his side. Harrison had a long battle with what started as throat cancer. That's all the information I was able to get. If you have an more info please feel free to add it, or just leave some thoughts....

Most of the yonger people on the board probably know very little about him. I suggest you check out his album/CD "All Things Must Pass" to get a glimpse of what he was about.

I was wondering about this, and whether they (younger people) realize the impact the Beatles had on music.

George was the most underrated Beatle by far. Both he and Ringo had one or 2 songs on most albums, but musically those two were far apart.

He was also a true humanitarian, although I wonder if that is an anacronistic (sp?) thought today.

I'm surprised at how deeply I was affected when I heard the news today (oh boy). At least I get to hear Beatles all day on the radio. I hope O & A don't play Joe's George Harrison cancer song, seems a little too disrespectful for me.

Very sad news. My suggestion is to go out and rent the Concert for Bangladesh that he put together, you'll get a much better appreciation for him as a person & a musician.

In the word's of Bill Hicks, "We live in a world were great men die and mediocre hacks thrive". This sucks. He was such a talent. With how shitty mainstream music has become, it makes it even more of a loss. He will be missed

It's funny (strange, not ha-ha) that you mentioned that. I'd been thinking about that all day. As much as I appreciated George Harrison, I think it affects me more as a reminder about Lennon, which at the time was truly shocking.

This isn't my idea ( heard it on radio this morning), but in addition to listening or watching his music, the best way to remember/honor him is for us to all do one act of random kindness.

It's truly sad to see a talent like Mr. George harrison go. I liked his one album he did in the late 80's, and I thought he was underrated.
But yet, we can't get Chris Barnes from Six Feet Under to butcher Fred Drust of Limp Bizkut.

There's a method to my madness.

I don't even have the words to describe how sorely he will be missed, not only among fans of his music, but by the many, many people who's lives he's touched. George was a great musician, a great humanitaran, and a great person. Long live his legacy

Nice, Suzie. :-)

Even though it was known for a while that George was nearing the end, this is still a shock. It always amazes me how many lives have been touched and influenced by The Beatles and their music. What's even more amazing is that their legacy continues on to every generation.

George will be deeply missed.

I agree that many don't know his impact on music. Saddest thing was, he once said in an interview years ago that he wished he was a better guitar player. The guy never knew how much he touched music and changed it forever.

He was amazing, and if I didn't open my eyes to recognize it, I'd forever miss what I've learned about him.
