So "IT" is a ....scooter.

I thought this was supposed to be a secret or something? I've been hearing about this earth changing scooter for over a year now.

It only goes 17 MPH? THAT's going to revolutionize cities?

In 1907, the average speed of horse-drawn vehicles through the borough of Manhattan in New York City was 18.5 kilometers (11.5 miles) per hour; today cars and trucks creep along Manhattan streets at an average speed of 5 kilometers (3 miles) per hour. 17 MPH would be a huge incress.

I know there's some joke in that situation somewhere about the technological innovation making things like they were 100 years ago, but I just can't find it.

I think the scariest part is that Drudge was actually right about something.

And think about IT (pun intended) - if you live in the city, 17mph sure beats walking. Plus IT's self-balancing, and responds to your movements (you lean forward, it goes forward).

Seems to me that IT is better than a car for city use...

The scooter ITself is pretty remarkable, but I think the cost and battery life still make it impractical. There needs to be a lot of backing from the government in terms of making space for these scooters. It wouldn't make sense to mix them with pedestrians on the sidewalk and I know I wouldn't want to share the street with cabbies. We're definitely a long way off before IT becomes a part of our daily lives.

just saw one demonstrated on tv and it is incredible. they had it going up ramps, across large stones, one of the wheels on an incline. it cant tip over. the footprint is barely wider than your shoulders so using it on sidewalks would be no problem. the battery life they say is good. its just the cost that sucks. but that will go down. i think everyone on the board should chip in 50 cents and buy me one. think about it.

The biggest problem I see with IT, is the idiot factor. Whether the idiot be riding IT, or walking in IT's vecinity. While IT is a novel idea and an absolutely amazing machine, IT was developed in a country where the social ladder is no longer, "survival of the fittest". Instead, the gov't has turned us into, "the fittest must make sacrifices so that complete retards don't die in mass numbers on a daily basis". So, IT cannot possibly catch on, because of all the dumb fucks that roam the streets of our various cities.

While it won't live up to the hype, it's a good invention and a useful item (if you have the $$'s). I just hope they do something about the design.

Point is, we live in a country full of morons who would be getting hurt constantly by a machine that goes 17mph. There is no way IT would even be legal for street usage, why? to protect the less intelligent.

ive been riding a goped around manhattan and queens for about 4 years and have never had any of those problems. as for the govt never making them legal, with the kind of corporate and high profile support they have, i disagree. this isnt a bunch of kids with a new fad that the old farts cant wait to legislate away.
