Kids are way too spoiled these days. Every toy is electronic and requires no real imagination. Why roll the car across the floor when you can sit in a chair and control it electronically? And what the fuk ever happened to sitting down and putting a puzzle together? Just look at the hot Christmas items this year: X-box and GameCube, both electronic. I remember He-Man, Go-Bots, shit like that...toys that required imagination and that were poorly constructed! Even water guns are fukin complicated now! So, post what you remember playing with as a kid and let's all share in some cool memories!

Transformers
Star WArs figures with pieces you'd choke on. you'd swallow that lightsaber and you'd enjoy the entire fucking ride
Ghostbusters and the Ghostbusters 'uniform' with the proton back
Super hero figures like the mr. freeze who turned blue when you put him in water and the Cytlcops with the lever on his back that made his visor light up

Also with waterguns, when you need to wear a contraption on your back in order to get it to function, it's no fun no more

well, i just recently went out and bought risk, i've been having the urge to conquer the world lately. we had it when i was a kid, but it's all in german and it's called risiko. and i still enjoy doing the occasional puzzle here and there.

as for other toys, i'm realising that i must have been poor as a kid, cos we had the ghetto versions of everything:

mousetrap: 6 plastic mice with long tails, one rubber pad, one plastic cup. each person holds their mouse's tail and tries to pull it out before one person slams the cup down to catch them.

guess who: a large box with all the people's faces on. i was amazed when i saw the version with the flippy things on it.

battleship: 2 sheets of paper, 2 pencils. draw two grids on the paper, draw in your ships, start guessing.

Speaking of American Mouse Trap (real Mouse Trap) did anyone play the game or did they just set up the trap and let it fall?

There are way too many toys to list here, but I remember making things into toys and i just couldn't see any kids today doing that. Like a simple game like hopscotch, we drew the board on the sidewalk and used bottle caps as pieces. You can go to toys r us now and buy a board. Geez!

My favorite toy as a child was my tonka truck. it was big and ugly ass yellow, and best of all, made out of steel. This thing got rusty when i left it out in the sandbox. it was an injury waiting to happen, and when i hit my nextdoor neighbor in the head with it, it spilt the bastard's skull. I miss these toys, children today are a bunch of pussies. with their bike helmets and child safety belts laws, i want to vomit. as a boy i broke my fair share of bones and got cut up a lot while playing outside, whether it was falling out of a tree, or crashing my bike while attempting to jump the trashcan. kids need to fuck themselves up once in a while, it builds character. sorry didn't mean to start ranting like that.

i'm in the upper echelon

Anyone else have the 'Lucy' doll? She was similar to the 'Real' size Barbies they have these days, only she wasn't a Barbie and would do absolutely nothing. You had to be creative back then. ;)

I remember having a doll/toy and you could cut and style her hair and cut it and then when you wanted more hair you'd just press the spot on her back and pushed it out of her head. With me, she ran out of hair on Christmas morning and remained bald for 3 more years until she got chucked.

And who here got their first Uno card game set at 6 and then bugged their parents to play it until they were 9? lol

My favorite toy when I was a kid was 'stick'. You could play so many fun games with 'stick'. You could have a pirate sword fight with your pal. You could play acorn baseball. Man, those were the days.

I was thinking more about this and I remember having a small upright. Man I thought I was the shit playing that card board made piano like a maniac. lol I think it lasted a week in my house and then Mom put it in the basement cause the noise was horrible.

Anyone else have one of those uncomfortable banana seat bikes with the fashionable training wheels and the stupid flower basket with that iritating horn? lol

Those were the days I'd run around with my purple velcro sneakers in a red summer dress with blue bows in my hair and thought nothing of it. Hey, like being trendy mattered at 6 - NOT! And let's not forget the ankle socks with the multi-colored cotton ball in the back. lol

Here's some obscure boardgames for you. Who remembers:

Which Witch?
The board has 4 "rooms" with a plastic chimney in the middle. There was a steel ball that was dropped in the chimney if you landed on a particular space and the ball would come out into one of the rooms. if it knocked your piece, you had to go back to start or something.

(My brother recently gave me this as a gift. he found it at a garage sale, cuz we always talk about it)

Disney's Haunted Mansion:

This was great, and I still have it! the whole board was made up of 9 gears and if you landed on a specific space, you had to turn the crank and totally fuck yo up! There was also a raven at the end of the board that blocked the exit.

I remember endless days down the shore on rainy days playing Life and Monopoly with my best friend down there.

Head-to-Head Football and Basketball were killer also. Talk about using your imagination! 10 little LED lights on a screen and you had to figure out what each one meant!

more as I take a stroll down memory lane...

Thanks to Grumpy for his help with the sig.

My first BB gun.
The gift predated the movie but it was pretty much the 70s version of Christmas Story. It was the one thing I really wanted, but it wasn't under the tree. Not until all the other gifts were open did my dad point to where it was hidden behind the stereo cabinet.

SSPs used to be a favorite of mine. If you pulled the cord hard enough they could go a hundred yards. Yet I never had more than 25 feet with which to play with them.

My all-time favorite thing was the hippity hop, if they made them in adult sizes I'd still be bouncing around. I also like memory games. Other than that I don't remember any toys at all. All we ever did was play outside, climb trees, swim, all that good stuff. It probably didn't hurt that when I was a kid (and I lived in Germany) they only had 3 TV stations which didn't even broadcast until about 5:00pm and then it was all adult stuff, so TV wasn't an option. I think that would be a good thing to bring back.

anyone else have big trak???

it was cool. the predecessor to remote control. it was a tank you programmed travel distances, and angles, before you let it go. eight feet foreward, 27 degrees clockwise, etc....

or zartan? who else changes colors right before your eyes?

I don't need no arms around me... And I don't need no drugs to calm me... I have seen the writing on the wall... Don't think I need anything at all...
