Sometimes I’ll just sit here and stare. Not really staring at anything in particular, but just staring in general. I find myself getting into this type of trance where I can feel separated from the rest of me. Where does this boredom come from? Shouldn’t you like your job? How come the one job that I actually enjoyed turned so bad? Mt boss there was a psycho so it’s not really a surprise that that happened. Well how many people really enjoy going to work every day? I think me getting back into design would be the best thing for me really, I know that I would be much happier with the work I was doing. Would I be excited to wake up every day and go into work? Probably not, but at least I would like the work that I was doing.
Is it possible to pursue your goals by following a different path then the norm? Can you be achieve your goals by doing things just a little different? I tend to look at things from different angles then most people, and I usually end up with different views and results. I tend to not need a lot to make me happy deep down. Give me some good music, one really good friend, and a little bit of cash, and that’ll do it. So why can’t work be this simple?
I guess I should just be thappy that I have a good job that pays well. Nah, Fuck That.

Yeah, I know, you don’t care about my life. You know what? I don’t care about yours either. Fuck You. You suck just as bad as the rest of them. If you don’t like it, then too bad. You need to impress ME to change that view.

People suck.

Ok, stoney ;)
But really...

It was cool when everything was new & I didn't know what I was doing & I was happy to not be in school anymore.

There has to be a "down" to appreciate the "up." You can't aprreciate the good times (weekends) if something doesn't suck (work).

I realized the other day I'm "working for the weekend." I don't care much about what happens during the week, cause no one else does, they send stuff to me half assed so I'm done trying to make it perfect. This is just where the money comes from so I can continue to enjoy me time away from the "cell." :) And I feel better realizing it.

Eh, what do I know, just my two (two) cents.

i know what you are saying maynerd...work isn't always what you dreamed it would be. Just be glad you have a job and your health, those are important things in life. you would be suprised how few people really enjoy what they do and like to go to work everyday, its a very small minority

Why then can't you try and make life one long weekend? Do you really need the "down" to appreciate the "up"? I don't think so. I think everyone has something that they would love doing all the time. No matter how crazy it may seem, the job most likely exists. Fuck, there's GOT to be a job out there that would make me happier. I guess though, that a pay cut might be the consequence that would go along with the job happiness. But at this point, I almost don't care anymore.

Yes, but it isn't a socially acceptable "profession," even if it is the oldest. ;) j/k

I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I don't know what I'm good at, & I don't know what wouldn't get old.

For instance, I like the idea of traveling alot, but I hate other people's schedules. I want to decide.

I'd love to own a bed & breakfast, a bar, a night club...

Somone told me the other day, they saw a show about being the "nutrionist" for bands on tour. Do the food shopping, make special things for their "diet," whatever. How much would that rock. I'd even go back to school.

I understand that Skitch. But you know what? FUCK THAT! I deserve to be happy. It's not like the jobs that I want to be doing are even that far out there or had to acheive. Lemme see if I can think of a few....

  • Record store owner or manager. Not a typical record store though. Fuck these chain stores. I want something that has personality and a real passion for the music.

  • Web Design. Yeah, I want to do this, but I have yet to find exactly what part of the business I want to be involved with. I don’t want to make dumb fuck websites. I’ve done some of that already. I want to work on some kind of multimedia site. Music, movies, something like that.

  • Music Teacher. I would become a teacher if it didn’t involve 4 years of college. I absolutely love to teach, but it’s not worth the time in school. Why should I have to take gym and dumbfuck classes like that? I’m 27 years old, not 18. Don’t tell me that I’m going to need half the shit that you make people take. I’ve been at this a while, and realize that you don’t need most of what you learn in school.

  • Audio Engineer. Yeah, this is something that I’ve been fucking with for awhile, and I think that I could really get into it.

See, the list isn’t that impossible.

Can you imagine the whiney, bitchy attitudes you would get if you made something they didn't like!?

no your list isn't unattainable. the problem is, you are thinking about it. i know this may sound stupid, but pick one and go do it. i know you have a side job that would help out financially while you were getting yourself set up doing whatever of the 4 you choose. I do agree with you that going back to school at this point would be ridiculous, because for what you want to teach, you either can do it or not.
Just remember that the unique record store has a near impossible task of staying open with all the best buys and fye's out there taking everything and putting it at half price all the time. if you find your niche, and have the demand for it, it would be ok. i know for instance toronto canada has a huge techno/house following, so opening a store that specialized in that genre would make a killing...of course there are a few stores that i know of there too so...
Web design i know nothing of, i can't even host my own sig pics for god sakes!!

booboo was right, no job will satisfy you 100% all the time, but you should not be miserable in your job all the time either...you need that happy medium...

So you want all the rewards and want to do none of the work leading up to the reward? You can't have it both ways. If you want to be happy, you have to get off your ass and work for it. Happiness doesn't come easy. For you to sit there and say I want to become a teacher, but are not willing to go back to school becuase you might have to take a gym class??? is ridiclous. That is what is stopping you?? Then perhaps it's best that you don't teach. You need to take control of your life and stopping letting others do it for you & stop playing the blame game.

Does anyone else feel that we need to put Maynard on a Unicronish suicide watch?

You couldn't be more wrong snot. I blame no one for things but myself. If I'm unhappy in my job now, it's because I have made the choice to stay here. (even though the reasons for me wanting to leave are primarily caused by others)

No, me not wanting to go to college because you have to take a gym class would be ridiculous. My point was that they make you do that shit. Why do I need half the classes they require you to take? I am a huge believer in trade schools. They teach you what you NEED to know in the workplace without all the other bullshit. Not only that, you can do it in a fraction of the time.

In fact, I probably WILL go back to school (specific training of course) for graphic design and audio engineering. Maybe I won't work in those fields, but it interests me, so it's something I'll do.

As for suicide....if I've survived all the shit thus far, I'm not about to off myself now. Sorry to disappoint folks.

I agree with Mayn, example: half the teachers that are out there don't know how to deal with kids... Going to college to teach was just a waste of money... you need to have the right touch for certain things. Dealing with kids (and most adults) is one of them... As for getting your ass in gear and just doing it is another problem!!!

My 2 cents - you have to work, so why not do what you like/be where you want? My first job out of college SUCKED, I hated it and I was bored to tears, and I quit one day out of the blue. The company then made me a better offer, working in a different department. That job was ok, but after a couple of years I decided to move on. I then found the most awesome company ever, and although I didn't like my initial job there too much, I loved the place and the people, and ultimately I got a job w/in the company that I loved, and I loved going to work. The moral of the story? Keep looking, keep trying and don't be afraid to make changes. :)

You don't go to college to learn how to deal with people. You do that in your everyday life. That is one lesson which doesn't come easy or is ever stopped learning.

As for not going to college because you don't want to take the core classes, why not? So you have to do some extra stuff, that helps you become a more productive member of society. It's like those stupid people who say that they'll never use Algebra. They apparently never left there house to go to a bar or to the store. You may not see the immedate reward for taking those classes, but they will come.

It's not like in Trade colleges they don't have a core classes schedule that you have to take. If you want to be a web designer, your still going to have to take a A+ class or something along those lines, so you have an idea on how the thing that you use to design web pages works. Are you not going to take a Excel or Word class because you don't think that you'll use it right away?

How would you know you have it good without the bad? How would you know the great feeling of friendship and trully appreciate it, if you didn't have some scumabg backstab you. What you deserve is not always what you get, people make the mistake of believeing "if you work hard you'll get somewhere." Well that is true but not always. I know plenty of people who deserve and work their asses off yet get nowhere. While dimwits who barely got an associates degree in "applied sciences" whatever the fuck that means, they get in good somewhere. It's all the luck of the draw. Who you know not what you know is the truth nowadays. It's sad to believe that knowing someone is more important than anything on your resume, people don't wanna believe or say it but it is true. 80% of the people here probably got their job or atleast got the interview cause they knew someone who already worked there.

Do I like my job? I don't think many people enjoy their jobs actually. I know i do not enjoy my job but not cause the job sucks. I never think of my job as something to enjoy but something that I have to do. You can enjoy the company of your co-workers or doing a certain part of your job. But it's rare that people enjoy work. I don't enjoy work but because I am not making decent money or doing what I was told I would be doing. I am literally making close to nothing now. Plus I am doing close to 3 times the work i was told i'd be doing.

But people act like they were told life would be simple. No one said life was simple or that it would pan. Life for the most part is a rough road and you learn to appreciate the good times that come cause they are few and far in between.

Hell I would love to be a writer, I would love to be a sports writer, also to have enough time to write my novel. But hey we can't all have what we wanted.

Look it at these two ways.

You have 24 hours in a day, You probably get to sleep 6 hours on average, you work probably 10 hours, spend time traveling, spend time doing misc stuff. Figure how much time do you actually get to rest and enjoy or have any fun maybe 3 hours tops out of those 24.

Also remember this no matter how much your life sucks, someone out there has it much worse. You complain about work, someone has no work and can't support his family or is homeless. You complain about your relationship with your g/f or wife, while someone is lonely and just wants to be cared for.

Which all goes back to the start of this post, we sometimes take things for granted. Most people take for granted the love of your parents which I never had. Yet sometimes I take for granted things as well, we all do.

As long as you have friends even one you can spill your guts to, be it a friend, a spouse, or your mother. Then you're better off than most.

I love ya anyway Maynard.
