great job guys, loving the speed we have now, and the other new features.one little request/suggestion-a feature that lets you pick the page of a thread BEFORE you go into the thread.save the time it takes to load page one and then click to page 2, or 5, or 32

How about seeing who the last person to post to a thread was. So it would not only show the time, but also who posted.

I will thank FTL yet again for his work, and I'll thank the SLASH too since he doesn't have AIM. Nice job guys!

Somebody reassured me that if I get AIM that they have this thing in My Aim > Edit Options > Edit Preferences... > Privacy (Tab) > Allow only users on my Buddy List (Radio Button).

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

I am personally against this. Enough people have AOL do everything for them, at least people can learn to spell for themselves.

But seriously, what's up with some code to take you to the last page of a thread when you submit a reply/post?

Yea, I was thinking last page, and Moron was thinking drop down to take you to any of the forum main pages. If we have the drop down, we can also have the link go to last page. If we don't have the drop down, we can automatically have it go to last page. 1 less click, but no jump to another forum. As FTL said... get your votes in.

Also, when you search someones posts, and click one, instead of bringing you to the first page of the thread , can it bring you to that post, or at least the page that post is on?

Yes, InfoPop had that, and that is already on the list. However good thinking!

maybe if it was the last 25 posts in the thread. that'd be cool

Sorry, pages can't be split to accomplish that.

How does everyone feel about the "aesthetics" of such a feature?

The hell with the aesthetics, wouldnt that slow down the board? More links = more lines of code. The major boost of speed we got the other day was by deleting some code, namely the "next/previous discussion" links.

Not necessarily.

The pages would probably be much easier to accomplish.

The thing about previous/next was, it had a "loop" that queried the database, literally thousands of times. Keep in mind, that's thousands of queries - for EVERY SINGLE TIME that ANYONE views ANY PAGE in a thread - so you can see how it gets a bit taxing.

Great ideas so far though, keep 'em coming...

Is there a way we can get an option to have Ikeaboy's computer self destruct? If so, can we apply it to Alkey & Maynard too?

see the only thing i see with the last page idea is that usually people quote each other within the same thread. so if you are reading the thread you'd usually have to go back to the beginning to see what someone is talking about anyway, at least the first time you read a thread.

It seems like you don't understand the request of going to the last page AFTER you post to a thread. The idea is that you post, then you go directly to the page your post is on. Most of us proofread our posts after we post them, so this would save us clicking through 2 pages. The "Back to (THREAD)" page, and then clicking on the last page of the thread.

I used to have cool shit in my quote, but the mods keep fucking it up when they add shit to my status.

Great job you two. I was thinking that maybe the server couldn't handle all the traffic it was getting, but I guess all it needed was a little tune-up.
Thank you FTL & Slash.
