I just watched the first break of That 80's show. 5 minutes was long enough for me to realize what a peice of shit that it was. they're playing off of the stereotypes of that decade rather than just using it as a background for the show. every joke is an 80's joke. on That 70's Show, they actually have funny writing that DOESN'T have to do with disco.

if the show gets funny, which i doubt will happen, please notify me

In a word - yes. I lived through the 80's (born in '72) and I was one of the few who didn't subscribe to all the shitty fashion and societal fads that have come to be knows as "80's-isms". That decade was so bad that even great bands like Rush and Yes put out shitty music.

we just made that EXACT point in chat.this show WILL fail, because it is just 80s jokes, not people who happen to be in the 80s

i've explained it before. 70s Show are characters in the 70s, 80s Show are characters who exist to make 80s references

And just like the 60s, no the 80s weren't what hollywood makes it seem. According to Hollywood, everyone in the 60s was a socialist, protesting, crunchy useless piece of shit.

I also lived through the 80's (born 1974), but I really don't think it was that bad. However that show was fucking awful. I turned it off after five minutes also. It was just that bad.

IkeaBoy is correct, and I was very very very disappointed with the show. I was a young teenager getting into bars during the 80'sn and even their bar scene was bullshit! 12 people on the dance floor while they crack 80's commentary? I remember the 80's in clubs being sooo much more crowded, the whole WORLD was so much more crowded back then, and more fun than this 80's wardrobe parade is showing. These paople are taking the fun out of the 80's. Speaking of fun in the 80's apply pressure to the snowman's wound.

Write To Me Here

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

In a nutshell, yes. Having experienced every decade since the 60's, the 80's were awfull. Just fucking awfull.

The show wasn't all that bad. The lesbian angle kept me intrigued. ;)

ditto. But seriously, everything I remember from the 80s is playing with action figures on the potty... playing with my Commodore 64 and NES, a park and movie rental place on Metropolitan Ave. in Kew Gardens and maybe some summers on Brighton Beach... then I vividly remember waking up and watching the Rose Parade on Jan 1, 1990. :(

so ya, they weren't half bad :) Don't YOU all wish you were 17? fdblingfrg, comment? adolescent,... oh, nevermind.

I watched it. It didn't grasp my full attention. I switched back and forth between the 80's show, the White House special and The Erotic Network.

I lived through the 80's. It wasn't THAT bad. We had our hair bands, our diesel, our nose bleeds, plastic bracelets, funky hair and the birth of MTv. It was the end result of decades past - one huge cluster fuck and I am glad I lived through it.

It’s amazing how you have the ability of taking my heart of stone and melting it like butter. Maybe it’s the passion in your eyes, possibly in the magic, which lives within the curves of your smile or perhaps in your uncanny ability to make me feel that I too can fall head over feet, twice in one lifetime.

I was excited about the show since i first heard about it a few months ago.. but after the first 5 minutes of the show, i realized how horrible the show is. I ended up barely watching it at all becuase i couldnt sit through the horrible jokes. I give the show 6 episodes before it is cancelled.

My take on it is the 80's in my opinion was great (I know, unpopular sentiment), but this show was GOD AWFUL!
I had to agree with Norton and the guys when they were going off on the promos. From the beginning when they first started promoting the show, I said they are gonna try too hard to ram 80's references down our throats. They don't do that with That 70's Show and that's why they're successful. If That 80's Show wants to survive, they better take a page out of the other's book and follow it. Otherwise they won't make it through a full season.
On a side note, the only good thing about That 80's Show has to be the bi-sexual chick Sophia played by Brittany Daniel. You can check her out here.
