That would cause more of a problem than you think.... blow it up, and thousands of tiny pieces of junk are usddenly orbiting the Earth at 20,000 miles per hour. Any ONE of which could completely destroy any other satellite, the Shuttle, or the International Space Station.

Much safer to let it drop to Earth and burn as much of it up as possible..... seeing as how the Earth is 75% water, chances are the pieces will fall over an ocean.
