I’ve been thinking about this for a few weeks now, but I wanted to wait until That 80’s Show debuted so we could remember how much different things were back then.

In the 80’s we had big & wild hairdos, hair bands, pop and new wave music, flashy fashions that you wouldn’t be caught dead in nowadays, the birth of MTV, and censorship out the ass that wouldn’t let anything fly. Hell, it was a surprise when you actually found a radio station that let the words son of a bitch go in the Charlie Daniels song The Devil Went Down To Georgia.

Then in the 90’s that stuff disappeared and was replaced with the grunge movement, the Internet, rap and hip-hop becoming big, more casual (and normal) fashions, the “death” of MTV (remember when M used to stand for music), and a more lax censorship that lets so much more through. Aside from actual hardcore sex or the word fuck, just about anything goes on TV.

That brings us to today or the 00’s if you will. It may be too soon to notice any real differences, but have you noticed anything that has changed from the 90’s to the 00’s yet? Personally I haven’t and it still feels like the 90’s to me.

On a side note, if you haven’t seen any change, do you have any predictions on what we may see in the next 8-9 years that was never thought possible?

The 90s didn't really start to get different until '91-'92, when grunge pretty much took music, society, just about everything and changed it around. The 90s basically became a mesh of everything all together.... no one trend really took over.... so unless a trend does take everything over this decade, it probably will be like the 90s...

In the early 90's people used to tell me "stop doing that, you'll hurt yourself"

Too late my boy.... too late.... maybe I'll sell it to ya :)

The thing with societal change is that you really can't notice it as it happens. One day you just kinda look back and say "wow..... I remember when...." Will things be different? Sure, that's how the world works... people evolve and everything changes.

I would love to see the death of the moral police and the "P.C." movement..... but sadly enough, we will likely be stuck with it.

oh wait.. umm do you think we care about her li.. ahhh screw it.

I have been accused of spamming members of this site. In reality, I e-mailed one person to tell her about the existence of another site. I never gave said person the URL of this other site and only asked if she would be interested. Well, long story short, she told your beloved froy and he decided that this would be his perfect opportunity to ban me for good. As usual, his reason is without merit. I think it is important to point out that they boy wonder feels that you, as members, are his possessions: possessions that are not to be contacted by outside sources. I readily admit that I sent the above-mentioned e-mail of my own volition and was not sponsored in doing so by any other outside source. This has put here to explain what froy won't explain to you. He would have you venture a guess as to what I did, and furthermore let your imagination get the better of you. I have no shame, and I will tell the truth as I always have, for better or worse. So, those of you who wanted me gone for so long, you've finally gotten your wish. Now can all have your Kid is Dead Party. And I can cry in my Corn Flakes because I care so much. This board was fun when it was fun, but man when it sucks does it really suck. Enjoy it though; it's your world now. A world without Kid Afrika

I've been here for a long time. I've seen a lot of people come and go: Mods, newbies and Veterans alike. It never really occurred to me why someone would walk away from such a tight-knit community as OA.com, but it has become painfully clear to me as of late. All of us have noticed the change, the drop in posts, the general fun gone. I remember a time where I would Log-into the board and have a sense of excitement: seeing what others have to say to my comments, taking a backseat and watching absolute mayhem unfold before my eyes, it was a great time. That time is gone now, and it's becoming crystal clear that it will never return. Many people have voiced their distain with the board, and the general response has always been "If you don't like it, leave." Well, I have decided that I have run my course, that I can go no further, and that it would be in my best interests to Leave OA.com. There has been a push as of late to return the board to some sense of its former glory, and many ideas have been proposed. However, at every single turn, it was said (and most often by Froy himself) that the board has evolved, and will never go back. As much as I hate to admit it, he is right. For me, it was always of question of "What can I do to make the board better?", but now it has been reduced to "How much fun can I have on the way down?" This destructive mentality, however fun it might seem, would only hasten the board's death. When I mention "death of the board", I don't mean a literal "404 ERROR" message, I mean that the board gets reduced to such a state that it is at best a nuisance to log-in, and at worst a bad idea altogether. At the pace the board is going at, it will happen. For me, it already has. Please don't get me wrong, I love the people on the board. However, I can no longer, ingood conscience, support a site with my patronage that is blatantly wrong. I have seen the board deteriorate to such a sad state that it is almost painful to watch. I've seen Off-Topic go from a Nut House mentality to "lets all hold hands and play". I've seen General Discussion go from Intelligent and thought-provoking forum about the Opie and Anthony show to "Lets all go to yet another Brother Joe Gig!". The Brother Joe gigs have over-taken the board functions, making all other gatherings seem stupid and trivial. I never went to the Bar 9 events to listen to Joe play, I went to be among friends. I would have gone even if, especially if, he didn't play. It truly is a sad state of affairs that GD has, for all intents and purposes, become Opie and Anthony's Spam. The "big name celebrities" post only when they have a gig to pimp, and we're all supposed to be thankful and kiss-ass? Sorry. Not my style. Never was and never will be.People have always said "if you don't like the board, then be pro-active, do something and change it." Well, I honestly tried my best. I did everything I knew, but I failed. I like to think that I made some small contribution to the board, but I can honestly say I did not. And I will not, so long as the board is run the way it is now: where originality is punished while fake-loyalty, conniving, lying and ass kissing is rewarded. Those involved know exactly what I'm talking about, so I won’t name names. Unless you dedicate yourself to these methods, you'll never get ahead on the board. I refuse to do that. I may not be popular, I may not have any sort of power, but I'll have my pride, and Pride's enough for me. In this atmosphere, not me, not anyone will change the board, so I have decided to stop avoiding the inevitable. The board will die, and no one can stop it. So long as the board runs as it is, it has no future. It pains me to say that, but I know I must. It is my most sincere hope that the site does become fun again, if not return to its former glory. However, even my fondest wishes will not let this board escape its fate. Now, it is not a question of "If", it is a question of "When". The board was in trouble, and needed new blood. When I accepted Froy's offer of Moderatorship, it was with the promise that I was being modded for the sole reason of helping to change the board. He wanted new ideas and fresh perspectives. However, I was lied to. Froy has made it painfully obvious to others and myself that the changes that OA.com so sorely needs will not be occuring, that protecting the status-quo is more important than changing it for the better.I hope that the people here can succeed where I, and many like me, have failed. I wish nothing more than the continued survival of OA.com, and the best for its posters. Hopefully, others will follow my lead and try to post interesting things, if not for the betterment of the board, then for their own personal amusement. Maybe they can find an answer that I could not; maybe they will turn the board in a new direction, one that I have failed to do. If nothing else, I hope your time on OA.com is fun, as mine has been. Hopefully, you will not have to come to my conclusion, hopefully you can find another way. I' m saddened beyond words that it has come to this, but I know my time to walk away is now. I hope I brought a smile to some of your faces, and I hope I have secured some small asterisk in the pages of history for OA.com, but only time will tell. For those of you who I have had the extreme honor of calling a "Friend", this changes absolutely nothing. You all have ways of contacting me, and I hope you still do. Those of you who have considered me an Enemy, thanks for the memories anyway. We had our scuffles, but rest assured that they all made me smile, if only for a second. I would like to leave you all with some words of advice. Stay out of the petty board drama. It is one of the main reasons the board is dying. The gossip and rumors, the lies and backstabbing hurt the board more than you can ever imagine. And if you do decide to get involved anyway, trust no one. Question everything you hear, believe even less. Question the motives of the people telling you things, question the validity of everything your told. Not everybody is a shining beacon of moral stability, in fact, only a select few actually are. Think for Yourself! Fuck the repercussions of what you post! This is what made the board great! I thought I left all that gossip shit behind when I left High School, I guess I was Wrong. Not everybody in "Authority" knows what their doing, and they shouldn't tell you how to THINK. Someone can tell you what you can and cannot post, but they CANNOT dictate how you THINK! Always remember that. Goodbye everyone, and thanks for the ride.

biggest change that the 90's brought was impatience. Hopefully the 00's will bring some patience back to society . . . and naked girls allowed to walk around without being arrested.

The one thing that I noticed that changed and a lot of it had to do with Sept 11 is a return to being Patriotic.

Things do seem to be getting better but are they really? The economy still sucks and I hope I am wrong when I say that I think that we still haven't hit our low.

That comes and goes with circumstances. Look at what happened during the Gulf War. The country was very strong and supportive of our military and leadership.

That's what I see the 00's being about. A down economy. The 90's was all about the boom of computer related fields, and dot com millionaires w/exotic vacations, over spending... Now no one is traveling much, (even if rates are really nice.)

I can't really see too much of a difference yet either, but I am hoping for a better decade than the 90's. Most of the "new" stuff of the 90's, specifically fashions, was just poorly veiled recycled crap from the 70's. (Can you tell I am a child from the 80's?) Gimme a decade of retro 80's "crap" and I might be happy.

BTW, "That 80's Show" really sucks!! The producers should have stopped at the 70's, and let us laugh, rather than try to be "inventive" and make us cringe.

Stop starin' at my snowcones
