The Oscars always find a way to suck. This year they nominated that twat-bag Nicole Kidman and that shit "Moulin Rouge" for for some major Oscars and totally rejected Memento, the best film of the year. How could Guy Pierce's complicated and gripping Leonard Shelby character not get a nom? I was surprised to see Denzel and Ethan Hawke nominated. Denzel was great but it was a role that required being over the top. Ethan Hawke kept that movie in check, making sure it wasn't a 100% Denzel picture.

The Academy always chooses shit over REAL art. "Shakespeare in Love" beat SAVING PRIVATE RYAN for best picture a few years back. Cuba Gooding Jr., Mr. Snow Dogs, won an Oscar because of a catchphrase, not because he could out-act William H. Macy. Fuck the Academy. Would it kill them to nominate Steve Buscemi?

FUCK GOSFORD PARK!!! JASON MEWES WAS SNUBBED!!!

Lord Of the Rings..yeah, it deserves it, Moulin Rouge...no, no way I fucking hate want to chop Kidman's head off, but that's just a persoanl thing...I can't believe this shit is winning awrads. In the Bedroom and Gosford Park so do not belong. Memento will be one of those great movies that never won an Oscar, like Fight Club, Seven, and The Matrix.

Sean Penn gets nominated for playing a retard...anyne can play a retard, hell I can play a retard (not very hard for me) and get an award. How bout that douchebag Ribisi, he's great retard, cuz its not hard to play one. But Leonard Shelby's character, that takes skill.

This just might end up being a wah-wah-Memento-didn't-get-nominated-thread.

Fo shizza my nizza, is it ok to say nizza?

yes Gosford Park sucked. Yes Pearce was fantastic. but here's something that surprised me, probably most of all because he got the Golden Globe- GENE FUCKING HACKMAN!! His ROyal Tenenbaum was fantastic (As was the cast and the movie as a whole) but he totally showed himself as one of the great actors of the year.

Supporting Actor- Tony Shaloub in The Man Who Wasn't There as a pre-modern Johnny Cochran deserved the nod.

Actor- Steve Buscemi, Ghost World, hands down.

5 best pictures should have been:

Memento, Lord of the Rings, Beuatiful Mind, Black hawk Down, and Shrek

Nicole Kidman is a dumb no talent twatbag who Hollywood feels sorry for because Tom Cruise dumped her ass for something hotter.

And what the fuck is in the Bedroom. Did more than 5 people see that movie.

i'd rather a small low budget drama (which I hven't seen) like In the Bedroom be nominated than something like Gladiator. and Cruz is NOT hotter than Kidman, Kidman's one of the most beautiful women alive

I completely agree with these choices. Moulan Rouge was the stupidist thing that I have ever seen in my life. Memento was a completely original idea, A Beautiful Mind I did not see but heard it was great, same with Black Hawk Down. Lord of the Rings was such a risk because of how amazing the book is and in my opinion they did a great job. Shrek was just hilarious.

This just proves that "the academy" has no idea what they are doing. They always try to be cutting edge instead of giving great movies great rewards. I actually heard one of them say one time that they "don't give movies that did well in the theaters awards because doing well was their reward." how fucking stupid is that. the best movies should be nominated, period.

More people probably saw "Memento" than "In the Bedroom" but it still got snubbed. "Memento" was talked about all year by everyone, from critics to guys on the street, as a great, innovative movie and now it gets shanked by those LA assholes in the Academy.

I forgot all about "Black Hawk Down" not being nominated for best picture. How did a period piece about a murder and a shit musical get nominated for Best Picture and not this movie? In a time like this, where 99% of Americans are in awe of our soldiers fighting for our freedom? Fuck big award shows, they're never RIGHT.

Okay, here's my replacement pics.

Best of the Year: Tie between Black Hawk Down and Memento.

Best Actress: Nicole Kidman, but not for Moulin Rouge. She was amazing in the Others.

Best British Period Film concerning murder: From Hell.

Best Low Budget Film/ Most Overlooked: Bully. It had the same kid from In The Bedroom, and he was much better here. I just got this on DVD, and I don't know anyone else who's seen it. It's from the same guy who made Kids. If you Know Kids, it's a good indicator of what to expect.

I have to disagree with you there... Cruz is MUCH hotter than Kidman. Kidman is not awful, but there's something not quite right about her. She just doesn't seem sexy to me... She seems to stiff, like she's made of porcelin or plastic or something.

Also among the celebrities announcing plans to emigrate if George Bush won was director Robert Altman--today enjoying a resurgent career thanks to the praise (and multiple Oscar nominations) heaped on his new film, "Gosford Park." In 2000 he talked to reporters at a French film festival (for reasons too obvious to explicate, meditations about the need to leave America tend to be delivered only on foreign shores, or reserved for the ears of the foreign press). There, at Deauville, Mr. Altman announced that he would move to France if George Bush won.
Mr. Bush did win, of course, and Mr. Altman didn't move, which doesn't mean the director has given up public brooding on the subject. Indeed, we learn from a Times of London interview, conducted only last month, that Mr. Altman wanted to stay in England, for reasons he outlined in clear, if familiar, detail.

"This present government in America I just find disgusting," he informed the reporter. Further, its president was a man who couldn't run a baseball team successfully. He would be happy to stay in England because there is nothing in America he would miss at all. "When I see an American flag flying, it's a joke."

A big fu to the oscars for nominating this douchebag for best picture. leave the fucking country asshole. You will not be missed. Besides Ikea is there anyone who saw this movie. How the fuck does Black Hawk Down (probably the best war movie I ever saw) not get nominated, especially today with patriotism at an alltime high. The stupid critics say that Black Hawk Down did not deserve it because it does not show the depth of the characters. Andrea Peyser of the Post today wrote what i felt exactly, that when the first pilot was shot and killed, shock is what happened in the theaters. No one was supposed to die on this trip to Somalia and people were saying they will be back for dinner. People were at the edge of their seats in this movie and were horrified as to what happened there and the barbarians that are soldiers dealt with. The story, the war, the gunfire and our soldiers dying and retreating were the story. if the OScars cannot understand this, than fuck them. Who the fuck cares about In the Bedroom, Moulin Rouge or Gosford Park? BlackHawk Down brought out emotion from everyone in the theater from being so pissed off for what happened or crying for the men who died or glad for what we are doing to Afghanistan now and not letting something like this ever happen again. Yeah a movie about sluts in corsets dancing is a much better film.

Well I haven't seen it yet (I will, dont worry) but I don't support nominating a movie because patriotism is high. that being said i don't support nominating a movie because it pretends to be smart. I mean "Wag the Dog" wasn't nominated and that was one of the best political satires of recent years.

If you search the archives you'll see that i even posted an article whereby Altman blames American movies for the WTC attack.

ikea, I did not say nominate it because of patriotism being high, it is an awesome movie and tells an unbelievable story that leaves people on the edge of their seats. It plays with people's emotions, especially with what is going on now.

I am not saying it should win, but come on. Anyone who saw this movie will tell you how pwerful it really was.

Jackdan, my point about Nicole Kidman, is yes she is hot, Penelope Cruz is hotter and has a personality while Kidman is a stone statue where Hollywood is sucking up to for putting out godawful movies that only movie critics and the assholes from Hollywood like.

Sissy Spacek, "In the Bedroom"

This pisses me off to no end. How challenging a role was this for Spacek? Jesus Christ is it hard to act morose and pissed off in the circumstances (no I won’t ruin this movie for anyone foolish enough to see it)

I’m surprised only 4 people walked out of it when I saw it. I wanted to walk, but I figured I’d torture my girlfriend by making her stay, as it was HER idea that we see it in the first place. Fuckin’ women...

That’s cute Ikea, but you misspelled Cruise...I know you can’t be comparing two women. Oh, and just to reinforce the previous opinions, Kidman is a fucking sickly looking, poor excuse for a cunt host.

Penelope Cruz...you could bottle her bathwater.

Not relevant. Every year there are movies released at the last second in a few theaters just to qualify.

Moulin Rouge doesn't surprise me. Remember who votes - Hollywood; this isn't the People's Choice awards. There are a lot who loved the idea that it was different, even if the general public didn't get it.

Shrek was never going to be nominated - that is why they added the animated feature category.
