Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70	I was talking with a pal a few weeks ago and we were discussing music and other things. The conversation made it's way towards Pink Floyd and then inevitably to the link between Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wizard of Oz". Now for those who don't know yet here is the legend. The way the DSOM and Wizard of Oz works is you start the movie and when the MGM lion roars the third time you start the CD (you don't just hit play, the cd should be paused at 00:00, then unpause it at the roar.) and turn down your TV's volume. You'll know that you have it right if 'Breathe' starts just as the producers name comes up. I did it myself many years ago and it had truthfully become a blur to me. So after speaking to him I decided to give it a try again. And let me say what a crock of shit it is. You sit there and yes there are some so weird synch's but it's so general that it could trully be applied to many movies with psychadelic backgrounds and dancing munchkins. Here are some of the synchs that you see. - As the Scarecrow dances by a lawn while the album supplies the lyric "The lunatic is on the grass". - "Got to keep the loonies on the path" is heard as Dorothy and Scarecrow set off on the Yellow Brick Road for Emerald City. - During "Breathe" the vocal is "balanced on the biggest wave" while on screen Dorothy plays a tightrope artist on a fence. - Alarm bells chime when Margaret Hamilton (the Wicked Witch) first appears on screen. - "Home, home again" is the lyric heard as Dorothy leaves the fortuneteller's wagon to return to the farm. - The Scarecrow sings "If I Only Had a Brain" right after the start of the song "Brain Damage." - During the tornado's rampage set to "Great Gig in the Sky", the munchkin's all but choreographed dancing to "Us and Them" and the cash register sound effects from "Money" that mark Dorothy's first entrance into Oz. - And when Dorothy listens to the Tin Man's chest, it's the album that registers the sound of a repeated heartbeat (this marks the end of the album). But members of the band, including keyboard player Rick Wright have denied making any deliberate connections between the album and the movie. But Roger Waters has yet to make his definitive statement on the matter. I now tend to agree with the rest of the band, it's a legend and it's a quirky little piece of trivia passed down from stoner to stoner and then it spread out. Today many people talk about the synch yet I guarantee 95% of them have not tried it. Has anyone ever tried it or am I the only one who stays up till 3:00 a.m on a work night to do this kind of shit? To me it's pretty thin and the synchs are really just small coincidences to me. You sit there through 80% of the album listening to amazingly mind blowing music waiting for small little synchs. The synch of Money begining as soon as Dorothy enters Oz is pretty cool I must admit, yet beyond that the first 20 mins to me was a waste I just didn't see it. I'm Deep Inside Your Children. Psychopath Registered: Aug. 01	you can download an already synched version off of morpheus. i got it a few weeks ago. some parts are cool but other parts you're just sitting there like 'yea this don't fit'. theres a whole website for other movies synched up with cds but im to lazy to find it. from what i saw it was other pink floyd albums and some smashing pumpkins albums. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jul. 01	Gonzo, I did that whole sync thing with some friends years ago. It was nice in some parts, but obviosly, at times it didn't match up quite right. But, it was just a boredom thing, and just to back up the whole arguement. One could find instances of synchronicity in almost anything. Just depends upon where, and how hard you look. BTW: I saw Elvis pumping gas at a Texas truckstop.

The one that I found weird is if you keep repeating the CD (since its only ike 40 minutes long and the movie is like 2 hrs.) is that the lion passes out when there are explosions at the end of "On the Run" and wakes up right as the bells go off for "Time". Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70	I actually found more synch when i just restarted the album when it was over in the middle of the film. And you can synch up the heartbeat and screams at the beggining of Darkside with the appearance of the lion and then him "growling". So you can come up with an excuse to synch things up, it's a quirky thing that has the arguable basis that the 'Magic Bullet Theory' had. I'm Deep Inside Your Children.
