| Psychopath Registered: Sep. 00  | Golfer's Prosthetic Arm Stolen Golfer Pleads For Arm's Return Posted: 10:37 a.m. CST March 19, 2002 Updated: 10:42 a.m. CST March 19, 2002 SPRING, Texas -- A man known in golfing circles as the "One-Armed Bandit" has lost a crucial tool to his trade, a $15,000 custom-made prosthetic left arm. The arm, along with several other belongings including a second prosthetic, was stolen along with Larry Alford's Ford Expedition from an apartment complex in Spring, a north Houston suburb. "This is pretty serious because it's how I make my living," Alford said. "It's pretty sad that it happened." The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department is investigating the theft, which occurred early Saturday morning. Alford, once a promising young amateur golfer, lost his arm from the elbow down 10 years ago in an automobile wreck. Since the injury, the 28-year-old has used his prosthetic arm to take on able-bodied golfers and raise money for charity. Alford is using an alternate prosthetic until the golfing arm, equipped with the mold of a hand in a golfing grip attached to an inverted prosthetic baby's knee, can be replaced. "If I can get through life overcoming the loss of my arm, I can get through this," Alford told The Courier, the daily newspaper in Montgomery County, just north of Houston.
