Unfortunately, as much as I would like to see them rebuilt, it just gives them another target. If we build it they will come.

In the end it doesn't even matter

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

Actually, according to the NY Post, that design won't be used.

They are going for five smaller buildings, nowhere nearly as big as the original towers, with a much larger memorial incorporating two corners of the tower sites.

This is a great design, I'd love to see it built.

And as far as taking it down is concerned - read the Safety section. Look at the placement of the stairwells. In the WTC, the stairs were all in the center.... the planes knocked out the center, so people above it were out of luck. With a design like this, people would be able to get out - there are many ways to get there.

Constructing five smaller buildings is the fucking pussy way out. I hate to use the same cliche "then the terrorists have won" but unforunately, it fits. There needs to be something big there.

And anyway, if there's another terrorist attack, I can't see any other way they could "top themselves" than with a nuke, so in that case, everyone's fucked and it doesn't matter what building is there.

Click here if you're bored enough to email me.

That has got to be one of the worst proposals I've seen. From the standpoint of being a part of the skyline, it not only dominates, but it also does not fit what so ever with the rest of the city. It's not a matter of height, but a matter of girth. The original towers were part of one complex, but were a group of buildings, with tower 1 and 2 the most massive. This design has 5 large towers , connected, and topped off by a pyramid, and from the perspectives of the skyline, the building does not look like a prt of the city skyline, but more of its on separate world.
The designer intended on this private city within the towers, and this conclusion can be arrived at by the amount of program he has assigned to this building.
There is commercial, residential, and government aspects embedded within the design. The residential areas will be very highly priced, so only the upper class will be able to live in thi building. Business which occupied the former WTC will more than likely be allowed to move into this building. This becomes more and more like a high rise condo for financial giants to be able to live in.
All other towers that are in the top ten highest in the world have an observation deck at the top for the paying public. Does this one? Nope, it has a hotel, with a conference room at the top. Who will get to stay in this hotel? The rich upper class, not the everday person.
And , at the bottom, a biosphere. Why does this memorial need to be closed off from the rest of the city? Why is this building caled a "cyber city"? The design seperates this building physically from the city, and socially, because the residential areas and hotel are going to be the most expensive places to stay in this city.

There are more daring designs for the building then this. When it comes down to visuals, its 5 cylinders with a pyramid on top. One thick overbearing part of the skyline, designed fro rich upper classes, and not meant for the city to celebrate.

Fo shizza my nizza, is it ok to say nizza?
