Figured I'd see who else is into trout fishing. Not a fly man myself, but I am looking forward to trying it this year.

Usually use super mealworms or spinners. I fish down off Rte 78 exit 18, Annandale. The Raritan River, West Branch runs through there. Great places for rainbows and brookies.

To a point I do consider fishing a sport...but I view it as more of a mental break. Gets me away from all the noise. That's why I posted here and not in the Sports forum.

So where's your fishing hole?????

It's even easier to go to the restaurant and have them cook it up for you too!

NJDude....Hopactcong is a great lake....Awesome for lake trout. I haven't fished there in 2 years. I grew up fishing in Rahway river...As I remember you're from Linden, so you must know about that shitty river. Best thing to catch there are catty's and carp.

Some of you people need to get out more. Fishing lets you interact with nature. It actually helps me relax and clear my mind of all the trouble that awaits me when I'm done.

I'm not big on fresh water fishing. I do a lot of salt water fishing. Flounder season just opened.

Ever been trout fishing in Rosco, NY (<--hope i
spelled that correct). So really good Rainbows up
there, they stock the rivers twice a year if i
remeber correct. Very relaxing camp ground there
(state park) with a nice river that runs through
it with many spots to choose from or just for
walking the stream. Dying to go again.

I like to go Salt water fishing but my stomach doesn't. I don't have any boat legs. My face will usually change between green and white and then all my bodily fluids like to leave through my mouth and nose.

I can't wait! I'm hoping to make alot of trips to Ken Lockwood Gorge, it's a fly fishing only stretch of the south branch of the Raritan River. I've seen some nice size browns and rainbows come out of there.

Like this is going to matter to anyone except myself.(but it is a great thread to get ready for fishing).
For trout,Bear brook or the New Boston river are excellent.
For bass *secret place*, shhhh...Rt 28 in Pembroke,Take a right at the ice cream stand,At the 2nd dirt road Walk 2 miles in,,Its a spring fed pond maybe 100x50 yards tops,,Between me and my bro in law we catch about 50 a day (No BS)8lbs was the biggest so far :)
For deep sea,I go with a rich prick who owns a 48'boat called the Michael D,Mostly Tuna fishing 900lbs was the biggest I've seen,Ocassionaly we'll fish for blues if the guy brings his kids along.

A good day fishing,Is better than any day at work. Its also a great way to get away from those nagging fucking bitches some of us married. :)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew good places to fish in the New York area. My Dad loves to fish yet never catches anything, so if anyone knows, I would appreciate it thanks!

Drunken GW, just some info. The Raritan has North and South branches. (no East or West) They meet in the town of Raritan (go figure) I've fished them both (more North-Bedminister area- then South) and they hold some killer Smallmouth in the summer as well. It's great to walk in a pair of ratty sneakers and cut-offs, throwing a Rapala. If you plan to try fly fishing. There is a lot to learn. Don't get frustrated and you'll be cool. It's a lot of fun. But thats what its all about.

Hey mckinks, Yeah, I was the one pulling out the nice Browns and Rainbows, huh.

To quote a episode of "Family Guy"

quote:

Man, that fishing trip was a disaster. All we caught was a boot, a tire, a can ,and this book of Clichés.

That about sums up my experiences too.
