While I’m afraid to bring up a question about any type of literature on the board, I was wondering if anyone here has, or is reading a good book.
I just finished Confederacy of Dunces about 1 week ago and haven’t had anything to read. If someone could recommend something good
to read (not including Playboy or the little tags on your mattress ), it would be a real help.

Recently finished "Ender's Shadow" by Orson Scott Card. I suggest you read "Ender's Game" first though. The two stories occur at the same time. They tell the same story through the eyes of two different characters. "Ender's Game" was the first. All the big suprises are in that book and it became the basis for a four book sequel.

Further recommendations from a sci-fi, fantasy, horror fan:

ANYTHING by Terry Brooks. Specifically, look for "Sword of Shannara", "Magic Kingdom for Sale/Sold" and "Running with the Demons"

"Heir to the Empire" by Timothy Zahn

"Color of Magic" by Piers Anthony (First book in the Disworld series. Very funny.)

I think of more later. I read on the train to work in the morning every day.

'Anyone who is capable of being elected president should on no account be allowed to do the job' - The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
Arthur smiled at him wanly and shrugged again. He turned and smiled wanly at the rest of the pub just in case any of them had heard what was going on. None of them had, and none of them could understand what he was smiling at them for.

Well i was reading Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk till I left it on an airplane. I did it on purpsose. Don't ask why. It was real good. I am going to have it to buy it again. Plus its educational. I learned what felching was. It's when a guy fucks someone up the ass then sticks their mouth in their ass and sucks out the warm sperm, feces and whatever else may be there. If you liked Fight Club and Survivor you should check this out. But so far it isn't as good as the two former but is still very good.

Try Cryptonomicon by Neal Stepherson (author of Snow Crash), it's a big book in paperback and tells the tale of two periods, the near-future and WW2.

I just finished Easy Prey by John Sandford. There are 11 books in the Prey series, all about Lucas Davenport, a Minneapolis homicide detective. The series is pretty good, if you like the police detective genre.

For some reason I've been reading the Mr. Ripley series (one day I decided to read the first and then I was bored so read the second and so on) and about to final one. I also have an encyclopedia of Satanic Cults I might look through. I've wanted to read Invisible Monsters though.

If you haven't read Nelson DeMille's Gold Coast you may find it entertaining.

Actually, anything you read by Nelson Demille you will find entertaining. Especially Plum Island.
I read Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe a few months ago. Great book.

i finished "red sky at morning" by paul garrison. its about a faction of the chinese navy taking Manhattan hostage during Fleet week. very good read and one of the best endings ive seen in a long time.
gotta agree with the other guys too, the davenport novels are pretty good, ive read them all except the last one.
another good series, if you are into that genre, is the alex cross novels by john patterson. its the basis for the movie "along came a spider" and "kiss the girls"
still another one is any jeffrey deaver novel. very suspenseful writing. Basis for the movie "the bone collector" if you even liked the movie you will love the books.

You know, evil comes in many forms, be it a man-eating cow or Joseph Stalin. But you can't let the package hide the pudding. Evil is just plain bad! You don't cotton to it! You gotta smack it on the nose with the rolled up newspaper of goodness! Bad dog! Bad dog!

I just finished reading "Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War" by AMrk Bowden. Really good book! It is an indepth look into the militayr operations that took place in Mogadishu, Somalia. A movie about it is coming out in November of this year. Very intense I would suggest reading it!!!

And I was about to suggest Sun Tzu. Okay, Nelson DeMille-he was mentioned earlier. Read Plum Island, then get The Lion's Game. Both are great novels.

Or you might want to look at the new translation of Beowulf by Seamus Heaney. I read a passage from it, and was intrigued. I think that will be next when I finish the Theodore Roosevelt biography I was given recently.

Hannibal is a good read, and I just finished Roses are Red, by James Patterson. The main character is Alex Cross, the guy from the movie Kiss the Girls, and the new movie Along Came a Spider the first novel in the series.
