God damn I love this movie. Has to be one of the top 10 movies of the 90's! Anybody else feel the same way. Watching it now on Encore. Great channel.

American History X arguably has one of the Top 10 scenes of all time. Lets just say curb people.

That curb scene is definitely one of the most disturbing ones I've seen. Great movie, though.

I miss Encore. I don't have it anymore because my new cable company doesn't carry it. That channel plays some really great movies that you just don't get to see too much anymore.

Tequila, I was talking about the curb scene.

i loved this movie, one of the greatest i have ever scene, one of the few movies that had substance w/out countless explosions and gunfights and gladiators cutting eacothers heads off(not to say thats a bad thing), but it also holds my title for the saddest ending ever, the only movie that came close to bringing me to tears.

Great movie. I don't have Encore, but now I'm in the mood to watch it. If I didn't have to work tomorrow, I'd whip out the DVD and watch it now...

I'd have to say that the best American History X experience was seeing it in the theater ON OPENING NIGHT. Talk about fucked up... it was a 200-seat theater - packed. The fucked up part is, 40-50 of those 200 were real-life fucking skinheads. Sick bastards, too - they cheered at the curb scene, the Jewish boyfriend scene, when he shoots the one black dude....

But the end... oh man... SILENCE. Absolute, dreadful, tense silence. And we all walked out of the theater that way.

Hey, Fucking Tequila, why didn't you post this in the Fucking Movie Forum???

LOL, j/k

AHX is without a doubt one of the BEST movies I've ever seen. And it is relatively obscure so you get to come off as a great and wise person when you tell someone who has not seen it to definitely check it out. This movie solidified my opinion that Edward Norton is one of the finest actors working today. (Also, the People v. Larry Flint)

I love it. Hmm, now I have to see it again.

FU Tequila!

I have to say that American History X is one of my favorite movies. Edward Norton was excellent in the flick, and it was just a great story.

Great Great movie. How many times did the black guy say aight. Its such a deep movie. My favorite part is when the skinheads are in the dinner and the black guy and white girl walk in. We all know what happens after that. Great movie aight.

That movie is one of the best. The most disturbing scene is the prison shower scene.

AHX is a "buy" kind of movie in my mind. It's got a lot of masterfully written dialouge that you don't always catch the first time. David McKenna is an awesome writer -- check out Blow (the new Johnny Depp movie) cause he wrote the screenplay for that. As BM said, it's also fairly obscure, so you will always be able to entertain and impress guests with it....
Besides Edward Norton, Stacey Keach, Elliot Gould, Edward Furlong, Beverly D'Angelo, and Fariuza Balk all gave great performance. And, who can forget Ethan Suplee (Seth), of Mallrats fame, who was simply amazing...
My sister worked with Edward Norton on an Off-Broadway Play and she said that not only is he an amazingly talented actor, he is also super-cool and down-to-earth....

this movie is one of my all time favorites.. If you have a dvd player , buy this movie on dvd. it has some deleted scenes such as seth and the skinhead leader (his name slipped my mind) getting jumped while walking. it also has some other stuff.. the ending of that movie had to be one of the saddest endings i have ever seen.

I usually don't watch non-comedy movies. But AHX was one of the exceptions. A great movie.

With or without the chick doesn't matter. Just pay attention. This isn't really a movie you're gonna want to get your F on during.

Yeah, skitch, some chicks might be disturbed by the harsh reality portrayed in the movie...

I think this is one of the most powerful movies I've ever seen. The first time I watched it there were like 8 of us sitting there throughout the entire movie, not saying a single word...Considering my friends are such smart asses, that was quite an accomplishment!

I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.

That is one of those movies that I have to watch every time it's on. I just can't turn it off. That really sucks too, cause they've been playing it like every night on Encore this week, and it's always on late. Damn the man.

I first saw AHX in Junior year HS with some friends. We rented it because we were on an Ed Norton kick at the time, but DAMN... We were blown awaynot only by the obvious violence, but the sublte logic that Derek's speeches seemed to carry. I'm certainly not saying that I agree with the pre-prison Derek or Cemeron's group, but that was one of the reasons the movie was so damn GOOD-- You'd be watching and just not know who to feel ... I guess "sympathtic towards" is the best phrase to use. I had to watch it again for my college English class and write a paper on it. The thesis question was "Is Derek a racist?" I managed to prove that he wasn't a racist using the murder scene as my evidence. Go fig. I also titled the paper "Ever shoot a fireman, you f#@%!?" One of the best papers I wrote all year, or so I was told. :)

If you haven't seen it, GO BUY IT. Don't waste time renting it. This is a movie more parents should watch with their kids when talking about racism and stereotypes and the roots of violence.

---Walk it off, deek!
