When someone you are dating doesn't smell very nice....just kidding. But seriously...I have to figure out how to deal with one thing my girlfriend has an issue with - I am about to start a doctorate in computer science, and she is about to start a master's in occupational therapy. Not to knock her major or anything, but I think mine is a little harder - that's why they pay us the big bucks, right? Well, I can't get away with saying "the reason my doctorate will only be 60 credits while your master's is 90 credits is because your major is easier", even if I think that. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Before I get too caught up in this, jewelry. Anyway, you must have one incredible ego, to think you need to say anything like that to a loved one. At one point in my life, I made it through one of the highest rated stressed out schools in the country (US News rated it 3rd). This did not entitle me to belittle others. If you look at it from another perspective, it may shed some light. Your course of study involves you controlling a very static environment. Hers involves an extremely dynamic one. Patients can make life difficult. She has a completely different set of skills to learn. Just because you are smart enough to do one thing, doesn't mean you would be good at her job. Express this, in your own way, and a piece of jewelry to apologize. ps, I am a guy, but needed to put in my 2 cents.  Some people think I'm a psycho, everybody else knows it! | Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | My response was after about 20 minutes of her complaining that my doctorate (traditionally a long program) was less credits then her master's (traditionally a shorter program). It was kind of a 'stick up for myself' thing and not a 'you are an idiot, get in the coffin' thing. Plus, it was at the end of a long day. Don't think I flaunted it, I may be emotionally retarded, but I don't want to have my balls handed to me :) I realize it wasn't the smartest thing to say, hence the call for ladies to help me out. She has more credits because her major requires more diverse training, an understanidng of lots of differnt sciences, people skills ect. You have to learn one specific thing very indepth. That's the differnce. It sounds to me with her 90 credits she would be working a lot harder...even if your training would be more in depth. I mean I am planning on going to law school and getting my PHD, and I would never ever belittle any one I was with my trying to claim to be more intelligent than they are. I don't think you need to buy her anything to apologize, but you should definitely let her know you know you said something wrong.  How I'm craving you, yeah! | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | first of all, thank you totmacher, yours was the name i've been trying to think of all week. my point: why does everybody insist on living in this universe where men and women are two different species. there is so much talk about making sure you tell your girlfriend the right thing to make her feel better, etc... personally, if something looks bad on me, my b/f tells me. um, there's other things too, i'm sure you know what they are, but i'm too drunk right now. the fact is, we are all people, try talking to your girlfriend as an equal.. i know that's not cool and all, if you listen to dice, anyway. but, how about discussing the issue as two rational adults. just my opinion, i could be wrong. When you love someone it is not supposed to be a competion. I personally think both of you must be extremely intelligent and focused so does credit amounts or the amount of money you get paid matter in the least. Just a thought but maybe the two of you need to sit back and realize that both of you have a lot on your plate right now and deserve an equal amount of credit. I have never been in a relationship where where I have been made to feel inferior and if I were to be that's when I would walk... It's just not worth a dumb fight or you hurting her feelings... If she's under a lot of stress right now, just either make dinner for her or take her out to a nice restaurant; that will make everything more gooder :)  no-one ever tends to me. I am a senior technology manager in a very large bank and I have pocketed more money in my last bonus then you are ever going to see in your life with a comp. sci. degree. (And it wasnt even my major). If you want to earn money, get your fucking mcse and work your way up to the top. I know people in my firm with no college degree with 10x more practical knowledge than PhDs about computing. So, learn comp sci because you love it, not for the $, cause you wont see it.
