how in the f did this thread turn into a Linux discussion? The poor guy is pissing razor blades trying to defrag his harddrive, and you guys are suggesting alternate os's? Jeeze Louise. Let's keep it simple for him, eh?

Safe mode is a good idea... and I couldn't agree more that Norton is worth every penny. It's got a lot of useful utilities such as windoctor, it's own scandisk and defrag, internet performance monitors... a lot of cool shit. Sometimes I just run it just to see all the monitors fluctuate when I'm really bored. lol.

Sorry, the Linux thing was my fault, it was meant to be a joke for any other Linux people out there.

Random gave the best advice of the day [golf clap]. Do exactly what he said and you will have no problem.

My last note for Africa:

If you are going to run an emulator, why not just run the real thing

Because it usually runs faster and more stable. That's all. I had no motive earlier. I had used Windows earlier in the day, it had crashed twice and I was pissed at it.

Good luck Pervert.

Norton will also tell you if you even need to defrag, great program

Just watch out with norton - while it does some good things, it has a habbit of bringing anything but a top of the line PC to a crawl when you start installing all it's little tools.

As for linux vs MS - Linux is wonderfully stable ONLY if you set it up perfectly. I managed to routinely crash Redhat when I was using it. Besides, if someone's haveing a problem running scandisk and defrag - do you seriously expect him to be able to install and configure linux and THEN install and configure an emulator and THEN.......... well, we get the idea.

I installed Mandrake 7.2 a while ago and it was months when it first crashed. And it only crashes when I have about 10 browser windows open, aim, and the media player.

Thank you all for you clapping.. :) BLUSHING>> :) I used norton's when I was using WIN98SE. Norton's doesnt work with Win2k. The best thing to do is do not install all the crap that comes with NU. I leave the Norton's Dr off and the monitoring stuff. Wastes system resources. I actually like the defrag in WIN2k it works really quickly. At work I run the defrag just so it looks like I'm working as it runs I surf the net. :) I run NU off the cd on every computer I fix.

if you can't run norton from the cd, use it to fix your problems and then uninstall it. That's what I've done since the first time I "bought" it.

I have a new problem, It's not really my problem it's more like my mothers problem. She somehow put her taskbar on the top of her screen. I went to her place and looked at it and I have no idea how she did it or how to get it back to its proper place on the bottom of the screen. Can anyone help me with this?
She has Win98.

you should be able to click and drag it

click on any empty portion of your task bar, and drag around the edge of the desktop to the bottom.

WindowsMe is way more stable than the previous versions of Windows

Norton found 63 errors in my system registry after I installed Windows ME. (aka "Migraine Editon") It also FUCKED up my laptop big time. The hardware wasn't compatable with the operating system (according to DELL). Overall, Win 98 SE is more stable, granted, MS has had years to fix all the "features" (aka, bugs) in Windows 95/98. The problem with ME is a lot of the software that runs fine in 98 will crash ocasionally in ME. Using Dreamweaver 4 while running ME is a bitch and a half. It would crash every 5 min until Macromedia recently released a patch to fix it. Anyway...

You'll be much happier with Norton SystemWorks running in the background. A word of advice, don't run the system monitor. It just eats up resources.
