Okay folks, everyday I do the daily grime of going up and down Route 80 to and from work. I've been noticing more and more that the state troopers are getting creative with their speed traps so I thought I'd do the board a little service and post what I know.

If you know of any regular speed traps in New York and New Jersey, please feel free to add to the list:

287
- As you pass the Rte. 80 merge going south, in the center divider
- South and North on around exit 22, the center divider with the trees. Always count on one hiding in their

Route 80
East Bound
- Exit 47 (center divider) just as you pass the rte 46 on ramp.
- After you pass Parsippany, going into Lodi, center divider. You can see if they're there from the right lane through the trees if you look carefully.
- Behind the wall just as you approach Rte 46/23 in Wayne. You won't see him until it's too late.
- Paterson, just before you approach Madison Ave. exit. The bastard has balls and sits on the shoulder. You won't see him til he has you. It's just as you make the turn.
- Express Lane, just before Hackensack exit after route 17 exit. Sits behind the wall on the overpass. They're doing construction so he hasn't been there in a while.

West Bound
- Route 46/23, just as you pass the exit. He sits in the divider where the traffic from 46 comes onto 80.

280
- going south, just before exit 6 (Eisenhower Pkwy) in the center divider. He's on the otherside of an overpass.

Also, there's a white undercover Bronco/Explorer SUV that patrols up and down from Newark to Parsippany.

Thanks Kid. Didn't know they existed. However, in looking at that site, they don't list a single trap on any roads I travel.

i'd like to FU those fuckers for spending all their time setting up speed traps to reach their ticket quotas and letting me sit for two hours on 78 in the pouring rain when my car died. 6 of them drove by before i finally got pissed off and walked the three miles to the next exit. the bastards...

Actually, this isn't a bad idea at all. Speedtrap.com is okay, but really incomplete. Only like 5 entries for the GS Parkway?! Heh...

Actually, parkwayguide.com is a decent site for you GS Parkway travelers.... they have a ton of traps and the frequency that you'll see a cop there...

The one I was going to add is listed as the biggest speed trap on the Parkway - at mile marker 113 in the morning on the Southbound side, you'll see a cop there about 90% of the time. If he's not there, then you see him half a mile down the road, having pulled someone over.

Start slowing down by 113.4 or else you could be toast. Also - don't speed up right after the 113 trap - sometimes as many as THREE cops will be in the area - one at 113, then two more at U-turns down the road a bit... they work on the premise that people will speed up when they think they're safe from the first cop.

No BS here - I've seen 3 cars pulled over within a 1.5-mile stretch.... each of the three cops got someone. Two unmarked, one marked.

Beware of Crown Victorias, of course. On the Parkway they come in all colors. I've seen black, blue, red, and tan. I have also seen an unmarked CHEVY LUMINA or two scouring the Parkway. DTA.

I only got one, i dont know if its listed though.

Yonkers

The overpass and Underpass on the corner of Central Park Avenue and Tuckahoe road. Usually, they set up the radar gun near the post office parking lot, and the ticket officer will be in a car right before the highway exit near Palmer Avenue.

Friend told me about one trick they use. A car will be pulled over with its hood up like it broke down. IN FRONT of the car is a patrol car with radar gun. You can't see the cop because of the car with the hood up till its too late. (Of course, the "broken down" car is an unmarked cop car.)

Be careful on the Palisades also....besides the known trap around Exit 4, they hide just off road and behind overpasses once you get into NY

The entire West Shore "Expressway" aka 440. The speed limit is 50 mph. It's a fucking 4 lane highway!

I'd like to add to this one:
Usually they can be spotted as you near the dump (usually off to the side, on the shoulder), and near the Victory Blvd. exit (I've seen them park right near the ramp that leads out from the movie-theater exit).
Also, once you get onto the SI Expressway (thats 287 to all the non-islanders), depending on the time of day, its usually cop-free. Nights and especially weekend nights you will see them parked near the VZ bridge entrance (outgoing) and also just before the Clove Road/Richmond Road exit (Off to the right, just after the turn - if you see them, they got you).

And I would like to add a personal FU to these pricks who pull people over for 5 miles over the limit - 15 or more, ok, you caught me, I'll admit it, but 5 miles over the limit is just a ludicrous speed to have to be pulled over for.

Well geez.... if you're going Ludicrous Speed, you deserve to be pulled over.

I thought of one trap not on parkwayguide.com - once I saw a cop hiding on the grass in the rest area right after Driscoll Bridge and the Raritan toll plaza. There is a grassy spot between the entrance and exit ramps, and I've seen cops there.

Another huge Parkway South trap is mile marker 131 - there's an overpass, and more often than not, the cop will be on the other side of the overpass, or in the U-turn just past it. This is usually really easy to spot and avoid because the entire flow of traffic will slow down for it.

Since you guys posted Staten Island, allow me to follow through.
Brooklyn - Belt Parkway

West bound
- Just before you approach Starrett City, off the side on the shoulder. Usually just past an overpass. The overpasses block you from seeing them until its too late.
- After the gas station in the middle as you near Sheepshead Bay, sitting in the UTurn lane.
- After you past Bay Parkway, sitting on the grassy knoll by the Vet Hosp before the verrazano
- The entire strip from the Verrazano to the BQE merge. It's a speed trap heaven for them.

East Bound
- All of the parking areas from BQE to JFK airport
- Under the on-ramp underneath the Verrazano
- Sheepshead Bay, as you pass exit 9 and approach Knapp street, you'll see the bay and a cop sitting on your right hand side. Note: they also do Road Blocks on the Knapp Street entrance to the east bound Belt.

If you drive Rt. 17 either North or South after about 11 o' clock at night, the cops like to sit in all the vacant parking lots that overlook the highway between Paramus and Ho Ho Kus.

Sometimes, this cop is behind a row of bushes on the entrance ramp side of the highway... also, there is an automatic speed trap here on alternate weeks during the summer. You know, the sign that tells you how fast you are going... it clocks the center lane, just as you come out from under the overpass at Knapp St.
ALSO: NYPD runs a MARKED Highway Patrol car WITHOUT a lightbar on the roof on the Belt Parkway. It's a Crown Vic.

NJ PARKWAY

Going south after you pass exit 135 (Clark) there are 2 of them. First one as you come up to mile markers 133 start slowing down as you go under the over pass there is a cop siting right past it on the left. The second one is right past that one there is a split in the grass on the left that always has 2 to 3 troopers sitting there.

Rt. 287

Heading north even if the inspectaion station for trucks is closed there will be a trooper sitting in there clocking people. Also still travaling north after you go over the bridge past exit 10 (easton ave) there will be a trooper sitting on the left.

NJ Turnpike

Heading south once you pass the exit for 8A under the ramp there is a trooper sitting on the right in the grass.

Rt 23

Heading south right by Shotzies tattoos there is always a cop sitting in the one of the lots there.

As Brokenjaw mentioned, the one near Exit 135 of the GSP often backs way up the hill of the overpass, usually if you see him, it is way too late.

NJTPK- beware of any and all 90's model Caprice Classics, especially if you see more than one ant. The State Troopers have a ton of them unmarked and they will usually pace you. They also have several Crown Vics, so just be on the lookout for them. Normally they will have plates the start with SG, but not always, the other good way to tell from behind is to look for the pointy hat on the back of the seat.

Once again I am newbieless.

I feel like I'm plugging, but I really have nothing to do with Parkwayguide.com - they DO have a list of known unmarked cars that patrol the GSP, and most importantly, since none of them have SG plates, they actually have the plate posted there.

Awesome site for GSP drivers.
