| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70  | I keep seeing people mention this is a "chat thread" or that turned into a "chat thread". Can someone please explain to me what the FUCK is a "Chat Thread"? Isn't every thread a "chat thread" of some form. It's a message board, more or less a primitive form of chat. In any given thread, people post responses to each other, and often create new topics of conversation. So a group of people conversing (in text) would be a chat, would it not?

It's "Chat" as oppossed to "Discussion" MOST of the threads have to do with a primary topic.. the subject may change but usually people move on to another thread at that point Chat threads develop from this state.. the discussion moves on to another subject, and instead of ending the conversation which this change of topic normally signifies, the members continue discussing whatever topic is live, even if it has absolutely NO relation to the initial topic of the thread.. "chat" can best be equated to idle banter. BTW.. upset we don't have a chat thread of our own active, are we? ;)  No! I am NOT a Goth Dude!! "Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun!" | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | I think when it gets to the point where it has gone 5 or 6 pages without addressing the original issue, it becomes a quasi-chat thread. The only real ones are the Slacker and official Chat threads, in which issues are addressed for about 10 posts, then go in a entirely different direction. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | I like to call them 'Corky Chat', just because the idea just seems downright retarded. Color me ignorant, but I never got the concept of the chat thread... I can just imagine hitting the refresh button every two seconds just to see that nothing has changed for five minutes. Kind of like watching paint dry, or waiting for the changing of the guards just to see those fuckers move. Bad examples.. but you get my drift.

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | Like we stay on any topic for too long here It's like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride of conversation, threads just get derailed and go off in another tangent all the time I think that when someone posts a serious topic and only wants replies to be on that subject--like the softabll game thread--and then everyone starts to post about other crap, it can get a little annoying. But other than that, I just figured that's how this place is suposed to work.  | ||||
