| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70  | Ok the FCC has finally turned into what it has always been pegged as and that is the Gestapo. This is the latest story, the FCCis fining a radio station over a hundred grand,for playing Eminems "the real slim shady" They say even with the bleeps the material is still offensive cause of what is suggested. Now this is idea based censorship at it's finest and this is the first step to total mind control. The radio station said it has been playing the song since last year or whenever the track came out. Now the newly appointed Bush FCC says what was able to pass under the old FCC standards during Clintons terms is not gonna pass anymore. Now no matter if you hate eminem or like him this is not the case here peopple. He doesn't bash gays if you listen to the fuckin record and not what people tell you. He bashes ICP for being faggots. The term fag or gay i mean come on who here has never said "dude come on that is so gay" or "man come on don't be such a fag" This is the context in which he uses it. And as far as killing his wife in one track who here didnt have one woman in their life they didnt wish they could kill? But i am not defending eminem here i am saying the people who say it is offensive mostly older people and politicians do not listen to the music they made a generalization. And people who didnt listen or chose to listen with the preconcieved notion he bashed gays is stupid for it. But for the FCC to fine a station for playing a song that is edited by the FCC standards that were set at the time is an atroscity. The suggestive stipulation is not set in stone it is whatever the new FCC feels is immoral so who is to know what they deem wrong? and who are they to decide for us? The album is labeled as offensive so don't buy it. This may seem like nothing big but when Hitler came to power and set the nuremberg laws removing jews from high level jobs it didn't seem like a big deal, but the stones need to be set in place for them to fall on your head. I mean come on eminem is a criminal yet Jerry Lee Lewis who is revered as a rock legend. Married his 12 year old cousin and broke into elvis's house with a gun intending to kill him. The open drug use of rock stars and the offensive lyrics in so many classic rock songs who is to say they won't start editing those old favorites? If they can edit looney tune cartoons with elmer fudd and bugs what is next? (Note, by minority interests I refer to those whose general opinion is in the minority, not racial minorities) The average American could really care less if Eminem or any other singer bashed homosexuals for hours on end. Most homosexuals could care less, they understand the context in which it was meant. However, those people who do care scream at the top of their lungs....and are heard. The politicians run scared, afraid to lose their jobs, so laws get passed that are not actually the will of the people. Many of us will bitch and complain when it is too late, but perhaps if we cared enough to stop it by speaking our minds, these things would not take place. Now, I will use this as an example, but understand that this is not necessarily my opinion: The gun lobby uses the same argument that we are discussing here, if we cave in on this point, what will stop them from taking the next step. And in that sense, they are right. We must fight such transgressions at the onset, or we risk losing freedoms in the end. It is time for the FCC to be disbanded. It's very existence borders on being unconstitutional. It only truly exists because regulation is needed to protect business interests such as copyright infringement and area broadcast priveledges. Originally the only true purpose of the FCC was to regulate communication commerce, protect small broadcasters by issuing frequency licenses, ensure that broadcasters were not causing interference with other electronic equipment, etc. Somewhere along the way, we allowed them to start regulating content, and slowly but surely, they are trying to expand their domain. The biggest problem is that nobody has really been able to take a strong case to the Supreme Court and no politician is willing to risk making a case themselves. Until WE stand up and make our feelings known, these infringements will continue until we eventually have no freedom to choose what we want to hear, view, do.  Still one spot open! How long has that been out, over a year at least and it takes until now for someone to contact the FCC and the FCC to fine them? A song that's been played on every radio station, network TV thanks ot the Grammys and MTV hundreds of times. Fine us all if you want to fine one. Don't single out scapegoats when we're all to blame. EDIT: I know exactly what you are saying Doc Smith. These people want us to go back to the 1950s, these people want us back in the Donna Reed lifestyle. They want us to enter a period of the dark ages. We can't progress technologically and remain behind culturally. There's a reason why people change, why we've changed and that's because some people are willing to accept other lifestyles, conflicting opinions, etc.. If you want to go gay, go gay. You're not anally raping me, have anal sex with whomsever you want. Once people stop being so closed minded, then this country will be a better place, then the FCC will be told to fuck off but we really have to wait for everyone in Congress to die before that happens.
