| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | June 26, 2001 -- ‘BIG Brother" himself promises sex and controversy on this summer’s edition of the CBS reality show that has seen wild success overseas but a dud in the U.S. The show’s new executive producer says the show is certain to strike a chord with viewers when it debuts next week - because the game will be played wide open. "Controversy is always good - it doesn’t bother me," says Arnold Shapiro, the new producer who made the classic documentary "Scared Straight." "They basically did the European version last year," Shapiro said. "This time we’re doing an American version. We think we know what we’re doing in terms of making this a real life soap opera." And like all good soaps, the producer is banking that sex will sell it. "They will do whatever they want," he said of the yet undisclosed new cast. "But knowing this group - they’re a very uninhibited group - I suspect that it is likely that there will be nudity and I suspect that it is likely that there will be sex." But just how far can "Big Brother 2" go? "We can show as much as the daytime soaps and that’s quite a bit," Shapiro says. "Last summer they didn’t show anything because there was nothing to show. We will show as much we can, we might have to do some blurring." Last year’s edition became so talky, the show’s producers resorted to offering cash to the contestants to leave the house. "That can’t happen this time," Shapiro says. "This group is too extroverted to be dull." Many attribute the European success of "Big Brother" to less strict broadcasting regulations that allow more nudity to air than here. "There’s less privacy in this house, co-ed sleeping arrangements will be inevitable this time, just because of the way the house is configured." Last year men slept in one room and women in another, Shapiro recalls. "That can’t happen this time," he says. "I am not one of those producers that in any way tries to manipulate the people on the show," Shapiro said. "This is a most competitive, outgoing, personable, attractive, uninhibited group of people," he says. "Every one of these people is determined to win and will do anything to win. "Last year you hardly knew it was a competition," he said. The house itself has also been revamped. Gone is the utilitarian Ikea furniture and in its place are luxurious furnishings. "The house guests are now going to have to compete for their food," Shapiro says. "And competitions will relate to their quantity and types of food - one [winning] team may get gourmet food while the other gets peanut butter." | Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | I agree, didn't think the show was all that great last year, but I still watched it every chance I had. Shit, I still watch the Real World. I just get sucked in by watching "real people" interact on camera. It's not always good, but it's usually entertaining.

| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | I didn't like the show last year but watched every episode. But doesn't guaranteeing sex no matter what the situation essentially mean rape? Oh well time for attractive people to take over the Big Brother house. But then again we aren't allowed to vote on who should/shouldn't be kicked out so that basically destroys the premise that made big brother...interesting.
