| Psychopath Registered: Feb. 01  | Hey guys, just a question asking for some advice please. Got a promotion at work 2 weeks ago to supervisor. Well, I just got the word today from corporate that I have to fire somebody tomorrow. It is the first time in my life that I have had to do this, and I know that I have to do it, but I still feel like shit. Is that normal?, and what do you think is the best way to go about it? Whatever the reasons your being told to do it for, be compasionate but firm. Make it as painless as possible for them and you. Be direct, to the point, but brief. Allow them time to compose themselves if they take it hard before escorting them out. Don't say things like " I wish I didn't have to" or "Im sorry to have to do this". Hard to say about 'how to do it'. I am guessing the firing/layoff is financially motivated. Tell them it was nothing personal - but cutbacks are being made throughout the company.  | ||||
