Okay, I know this will break everyone's collective heart, but I won't be able to play. But I'm sure no matter where I am, I'll hear Strawberry's voice...the doctor's are hoping the medication will help.

Have a great time everybody. The last game was a blast! Go Salad Tossers!

Damn Damn Damn
I just found out I have to pick up some people at the airport Saturday night. I should still be able to be there (should my car be fixed by then...but I digress) but I don't think I'll be able to play since I have to leave pretty early to pick them up.
Sorry to spring this on you so late

And one more thing that bugs the shit out of me:

if theres thunder and lightning we can sit in our cars, the rubber wheels will protect us.
Uh...actually no. That lightning bolt just ionized a column of gas three miles long, you think it cares about a half inch of rubber? That's like saying your sneakers will protect you. It's the metal skin of the car that protects you, since electricity will flow over it and to the ground instead of through the air inside (where you are).

DIRECTIONS

-From NYC -
George Washington Bridge to
NJ Turnpike South take Exit 14 (I-78, Elizabeth) to I-78 headed West.
Take I-78 West to I-287 North to I-206 North then to Route 24W
From Route 24W, about one mile from the intersection of routes 24 and 517 in Long Valley, then turn right on to Washington Road, and right again on to East Springtown Road; the park entrance is on the right.

-----------------------
If that gets you confused, here's the link: Morris County Parks

Just click on Parks, and in the "Keyword", type "Schooley"

We will be in Section B of the park. (Its the first field on the right as you drive in)
-----------------------------------------

Edit -- I just went up to the park, here's a synopsis: Get on Route 24 West, STAY on 24 WEST, you'll see signs (After going through Morristown, Mendham, Chester and Long Valley) for Schooley Mountain Park (Its on Springtown Road, the road winds awhile then you see the park.)

Route 24 W is a rural highway in every sense of the word -- expect farms and cows and big fields

Ya know, I just compared these directions to the ones you posted originally.
I don't see the difference. Thank God I printed out the map. Thanks once again.

i know fnmoron is trying to compile mass transit stuff, but if anyone else has the info for what train to take from manhattan and then bus or whatever once we get there, that'd be greatly appreciated.

There is no bus out to there. You can take the train to several towns close to there, but then you'll still have to walk like an hour to the field. Maybe you can arrange for someone to pick you up at one of the train stations. Or maybe train it to the town where someone else lives. Something to that effect.

Now you can see why I never wanted to leave that island

I'll be hitting some balls this week for practice. Not to sound like a bitch, but then again, I don't care. Hope my ball-hitting won't be a waste of time and I'll actually be able to play this time.

amy learn to friggin read already i said two pages ago you are playing. Jeez little pity girl yes you are playing.

Is it me or do boogaloo's directions seem to be confusing? I got i can take the verezano to the SI expressway to the turnpike south but then i am confused. Simplifying things too much sometimes complicate it.

I just spoke with froy since we have a few people pulling out and we may be short on the benches and people will have to play both games.

Now listen this is very very important if saturday turns out top be a hot humid day like today is. Please make sure if you feel exhausted tell your captain and please please please keep yourself cool and drink lots of water, please if you are bringing stuff lets make sure to bring some water. If anything we will take breaks during the game like a 7th inning stretch but since its a 7 inning game in the 4th or 5th. But please don't try to be a hero if you don't feel up to playing tell us. We don't need people dropping out like black dudes in arizona.

first of all, thank you sean for pointing out the obvious. i thought i was the only one thinking that and was beginning to question my sanity.

i think, also i forgot to mention that i'm in queens, i may be able to give a ride to one person from the queens/brooklyn/manhattan area if you are near the bqe or between me and the lincoln tunnel. also, with those directions, you don't have to take the gwb. the lincoln and holland tunnels work too, right? i'm in queens and have personally never gone anywhere near the bridge.

and, one little psa, perhaps we should all read up a little on the dangers of heat stroke...this is gonna be a fun day out, don't want anyone getting sick now :)

Ziggy, if you are taking the train from manhattan, the last stop you would be able to get off at is dover. from there it is like 20 minutes by car.

I live in the area, and have been there before, but now that i read the directions, i am confused too. Oh well, I guess it is easier to just drive there, than it is to read the directions...

Yes if you are playing, be careful, drink water and not alcohol.

And Jenni, you will be starting. I promise.

skit thanks for the info. do you know what line that's on? it's nj transit, right? if yes, than i should be able to get there. it might help if i can get a ride from the train station tho.
and from dr. ziggy's file (webmd.com)...

heat exhaustion
a disorder resulting from overexposure to heat or to the sun; called also heat prostration. Long exposure to extreme heat or too much activity under a hot sun causes excessive sweating, which removes large quantities of salt and fluid from the body. When the amount of salt and fluid in the body falls too far below normal, heat exhaustion may result.
SYMPTOMS. The early symptoms of heat exhaustion are headache and a feeling of weakness and dizziness, usually accompanied by nausea and vomiting. There may also be cramps in the muscles of the arms, legs, or abdomen. These first symptoms are similar to the early signs of "sunstroke" SUNSTROKE, or heat stroke, but the disorders are not the same and should be treated differently. In heat exhaustion, the person turns pale and perspires profusely. His skin is cool and moist, and his pulse and breathing are rapid. His body temperature remains at a normal level or slightly below, whereas in sunstroke the body temperature may be dangerously elevated. He may seem confused and may find it difficult to coordinate his body movements. Ordinarily he remains conscious.
TREATMENT. In cases of heat exhaustion, the victim should lie quietly in a cool place until transported to an emergency facility. If tolerated, half a teaspoonful of salt dissolved in tomato juice or in half a glass of water every 15 minutes may be given. Measures to reduce body temperature are employed with caution.
If the condition is accompanied by cramps, the pain may be relieved by gentle massage of the painful area or by firm hand pressure. In cases of severe heat exhaustion and cramps, it may be necessary to keep the victim at rest in bed for a day or more. Serum electrolyte levels are monitored to guide adequate repletion, especially when the condition is accompanied by muscle cramps and other signs of electrolyte imbalance.
PREVENTION. Heat exhaustion and other heat disorders may be prevented by avoiding long exposure to sun or heat. When the weather is very hot, or when working in an extremely hot place, it is essential to drink plenty of water. Regular breaks from work are necessary, and in the event of weakness or dizziness, the victim should stop working at once and rest in a cool place.
