I just want to tell you guys about something that happened to me this morning. I was on my way to a doctor's appt and had to stop for gas. I gave the guy my card and he came back saying it was declined (Oh shit...). I tried to give him another credit card of mine (that I knew probably wasn't going to work either) and it was also declined. I had no money on me and I had no idea what the hell I was going to do. The gas station attendant told me I could give him the money later, but I would have to leave my license with him (what???). I asked him how he expected me to drive without my license and he gave me the "its not my problem" attitude. Then I see this guy walking over to my car (I thought he also might work at the station) and he asked if I needed any help. I told him I needed $10 for the gas (at the same time this was going on, I was on the phone with my boyfriend-who works over 1 hour away-trying to convince him to bring me some money). The guy who asked if I needed help then said he would give me the $10, but how would I pay him back? At this time, I got even more pissed because I thought he was expecting me to go out with him or give him my number and he could "come by" and recieve his "payment". So, I kind of tuned him out and kept asking my boyfriend to come down. Then this guy gives me $10 and his business card and says "here, I'll pay for the gas and its up to you if you want to pay me back but I have to go".
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them where a total stranger got you out of a jam even though they didn't have to?

I went rafting down the Delaware with some friends one time a few years back. We were at some campsite in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania. On the day we were going to leave, I got up a little late (did a wee bit too much drinking) and by the time I woke up, all my friends were almost completly packed and ready to go. I didn't want to hold them up, so instead of having them wait while I shook off the cobwebs (figurativly, not literally) and broke down my tent and packed up, I told them to leave. I'd be fine finishing up and driving home on my own instead of in their pack of cars.
I packed up all my stuff, loaded it into my pick-up and got ready to leave. But my car wouldn't start, it wouldn't turn over, it just made this click-click sound. It hit me, dead battery. I don't know what caused it, I must have left something on and it drained my battery. I didn't have a cell phone and I thought I was totally hosed. I started walking to where I remembered there being a store so maybe someone could help me out or I could get to a phone.
Just as I was leaving my campsite, a guy drives by. He asks me if everythintg is alright, since I looked really pissed. I told him what happened and without saying anything, he pulls his car up next to mine, gets out a set of jumper cables and jump-starts my truck. After he was done, he put his cables back in his car and "Take it easy". Nothing more. He didn't want anything, he didn't even give me the opportunity to thank him. He just helped me out and went on his way.

Since that day, I always carry a pair of jumper cables, and if I see anyone on the side of the road at night, I help them out. I guess it's my way of paying back the guy who helped me when I was screwed. My girlfriend one time thought I was telling a bold-face lie when I was late one day because I changed some old lady's tire on I-287 one night last winter.

Kind of-sort of..

I was on the GSP and this guy got stuck in never-never land between two toll lanes. Traffic was heavy. So i let him in (receipt/cash lane). I get up to the window, and the toll taker goes "go ahead man, that guy ahead of you paid your toll and said to tell you thanks!"
I think if people looked out for their fellow man, when you are the one in a jam, somone will help you out.

PS- if you were a guy, i don't think he would have helped you out.

For example: Kindest Regards, Your Name

Actually grrrl, yes. I try to do things like that as often as possible. Why? Because I hope other people would do the same. Not to me, but what if the same thing happened to my mom? Or my g/f? I would hope there would be someone out there that could help them. I too like this guy am usually in a rush, but if I can help someone, I will. I have stopped to help people change tires, given them money in a jam, etc. etc. and never asked for anything in return. I would have probably lent you the $10 and said, ok, I have to go. It would be up to you to realize what just happened and be responsible enough to ask for my number so you could re-pay me.

Now you can see why I never wanted to leave that island

This old couple was driving down my block and I was outside washing my car and they asked me for directions, so I told them how to get to wherever they had to go, but the old man still looked confused, so I hopped in my car and had them follow me to the street they had to go to :-)

I love doing stuff like that, I was brought up to do that, I was a girl scout...go figure

last time, the insects got me, but

This is the song that doesn’t end, yes it goes on and on my friend. My first car way back when was a clunker that was held together with duct tape and a prayer. In the middle of a huge snow storm, I got stuck on the Van Wyck Expressway going home. Massive blizzard going on and my car just died. This was before the age of cell phones so I couldn't even call anyone, not that anyone would want to come out in that storm. This guy pulls up, asks me how far I had to go, tells me to hop in and gives me a ride home. I offered him money but he refused. He said "it was his good deed for the day".

If I see someone helplessly stuck on the road, I always make it my business to pull over and help them out. I can't count the number of jump starts I've given, or tires I've changed.

Here's a quick story about not judging people by their religion or race:

I was driving down the SI Expressway, and I saw 2 ladies outside of a car that had obviously overheated. I pulled over to help them out. Based on how they were dressed, they were Arabs. They had no clue what was wrong. I popped the hood, went to my car to get water and I didn't have any. A sedan pulls up, A Hasidic old man (curls and all) comes over, asked if I needed help. I told him the ladies needed water. He looked over, smiled, went back to his car, and gave me a full bottle of anti-freeze. I offered to pay the guy for it, he refused and got back in his car.

If you've been living under a rock, you should know the Jews and the Muslims have not been the best of friends lately.

Random Acts of Kindness are good for your Karma.

I so think that good deeds help your karma.

I remember my father always telling me stories about how he was dumped by one of his previous girlfriends because he stopped on the parkway and changed an old womans tire for her, The girlfriend just said it was a waste of time and stuipd, but he believed what he was doing was right, and since I was little I have always done what I can to help people who need it. It is good for the soul, plus it makes you feel good too knowing that you helped someone.

I am now looking for young f-tards to mold and shape for our community.

I was driving home in a nasty snow storm years ago and I saw a lady who slid off the road and was stuck. I had a set of tow cables (and 4 wheel drive) so I pulled her back onto the road. I wound up doing the same thing 2 more times on my way home. I never hesitate to help out when I can.

graduated by Fez..but that does not make me a bad person.
