I was thinking about attending the Coast Guard Academy for College. Would you guys that served in the military like Filzy recommend it? Do you see the Coast Guard as wannabes?

If you decision is based on whether other branches will think you are 'cool' or not, the military isn't for you. Jarheads, leathernecks, the whole lot of them think they are the best. It doesn't really matter. If you are interested in the CG, go for it.

If you really want to do something, anything in life, you should do it because YOU want to do it and fuck everybody else's opinion. What's important, is how YOU feel about it, how satisfied YOU are with your decisions and what you do with your life.

I wonder how many people actually read the text people put under their sig pics.

As I understand it, if its a military academy you're interested in, the two best are West Point and Inappolis. The Coast Guard and Air Force Academy in Colorado are really lacking the reputation. West Point does have the better academic program, however, the Naval Academy has a lower number registered. Both campuses are beautiful.

As others have said, f what others think. Look at the academics. West Point and Annapolis are the best and Air Force Acadamy is no slouch. Be sure you are ready to make the military commitment afterwards. If you can't handle strict guidelines, discipline and a miltary commitment, shy away from the lure of the cheap to free education. If you are not ready to die for your country ( you never know 4 - 6 years down the road), move along.
