The resident evil series is leave playstation for Gamecube. Theres a chance that sony will strike an agreement but only time will tell. Anyway heres the whole story.

In an official press conference released yesterday in Japan, Capcom Ltd. Co. announced it has struck an agreement with Nintendo to bring as many as six Resident Evil games, including Resident Evil 4, to Nintendo's GameCube -- exclusively. Yes, this unfortunately means that it's highly unlikely we'll see Resident Evil on PlayStation 2, at least for the foreseeable future.

Capcom will remake Biohazard (the Resident Evil series is called Biohazard in Japan), Biohazard 2, Biohazard 3: Nemesis, Resident Evil Biohazard Code: Veronica for GameCube, and is in development with Biohazard O exclusively for GameCube. Biohazard 4 -- which was previously believed to appear on PlayStation 2 -- will only appear exclusively on GameCube. For an amazing video of GameCube Resident Evil Remake, check Biohazard Cometh!.

In the videogame world, Capcom's agreement with Nintendo is in many ways unprecedented. The Resident Evil series, which began on Saturn and PlayStation in March 1996, has since spawned more than seven iterations on seven different systems, and has sold more than 18 million copies worldwide. It has never remained exclusive to one single console -- rather, it was just the opposite -- it flourished on many systems.

With Resident Evil's next six games exclusive to GameCube, Nintendo hopes to put a dent in its perception as a pure kiddy system and to generate sales among older gamers, who see PlayStation 2 as the premiere system for mature buyers. Capcom, similarly, is so confident that Nintendo's system will succeed that it's dedicating four remakes of its series to a potentially new market.

"Capcom has a huge amount of faith in Nintendo," a Capcom Entertainment representative told IGNPS2 today. "Nintendo knows it needs the older demographic, and the basic reason that we've decided to work with Nintendo with this series has nothing to do with Sony at all. It has everything to do with Nintendo. It's about where we see GameCube going.

"Nintendo has been very, very anxious about pursuing this series. They approached us about it. Heritage-wise, since the glory days of the NES and Super NES, this is simply a continuation of our decision to work closely with Nintendo. Both companies are looking to grow and expand; it was very smart for Capcom to make this decision. And PlayStation gamers shouldn't feel like they're losing out. After all, we have two of the biggest series on the PlayStation 2 -- Devil May Cry and Onimusha."

True enough. But still, is Resident Evil really truly exclusive to Nintendo forever? Because after all, it was the PlayStation that was so strongly associated with Resident Evil, and it was on the PlayStation that it gained almost all of its fame. Well, no. Capcom's agreement with Nintendo doesn't include every single Resident Evil game until the end of time. "It is not an indefinite announcement," continued the Capcom representative. "It doesn't mean that this is a permanent fixture. The agreement, to my knowledge, is for six Resident Evil games on GameCube. It's not forever. We're going to see how this goes as we move into the future."

To date, there have been eight Resident Evil games: Resident Evil (PS, Saturn, PC, Game.com), Resident Evil 2 (PS, N64, Dreamcast), Resident Evil Director's Cut (PS), Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS, Dreamcast, PC), Resident Evil Code Veronica (Dreamcast), Resident Evil Code: Veronica X (PS2), Resident Evil Survivor (PS), Resident Evil Survivor 2 (arcade).

From what I was hearing capcom's plan WASN'T to make resident evil exclusive to one system, but to make Resident Evil games that were exclusive to each system.. IE: They make Resident Evils for PS2, X-box, Gamecube, etc.. BUT these are all DIFFERENT RE games/stories from each other and exclusive to one system each...
At least.. thats the story i heard

I've got the Dungeon Master's Guide. I've got a 12-sided die. I've got Kitty Pryde, and Nightcrawler too, Waiting there for me...Yes I do, I do. I've got posters on the wall. My favorite rock group Kiss. I've got Ace Frehley, I've got Peter Criss, Waiting there for me...Yes I do,I do. In the garage, I feel safe. No one cares about my ways. In the garage, Where I belong...No one hears me sing this song. In the garage, I've got an electric guitar. I play my stupid songs. I write these stupid words...and I love every one... Waiting there for me... Yes I do, I do.
