Over the weekend I dug up my old SNES and started playing "Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past" for no reason. I never beat it before and I beat it two nights ago. Does anyone else do that, just ignore the new 128 bit systems and go old-school just for the nostalgic kick?

I haven't owned a console since ColecoVision was around, so I don't see me going back to those games (not to mention I think I threw it out a long time ago).

I have gone back to playing Quake III recently - its been a long time for me, and I had forgotten just how much fun this game is, especially online.

Here's a list of a few of the classics I still play...

NESticle, ZSnes, assorted other emulators: still can't beat the fun of drinking games with the original NES Ice Hockey, especially since I got the computer hooked up to the tv.

Civilization, yes the original DOS game... Got acid? Colonization is still on the drive, too. I don't mind spending 3MB for it.

Ultimas 6 & 7s. God, I HATE Voodoo memory managers...

GTA 1... 8bit flamerthrowers. See acid reference above.

Warlords 1 & 2: Still fun if I just smoked a little bit...

Raptor Call of the Shadows
Epic Pinball
Pirate Gold
Day of the Tentacle
Sword of the Samurai

God, somebody save me.

I'm on a Crash Diet

So grab a bottle for me
And a bottle for you

With nothing to lose
With a one track mind
Where's that leave you?

every once and a while, i'll open up one of the emulators on my computer and play games like Pilot Wings (SNES) and Sonic 2(genises). I had also never beaten Super Mario 1 when i was little, then i got Super Mario DX for gameboy and beat it in a day.

every once in awhile i'll bust out one of my old systems. the old atari is great to play every once in awhile (gotta love the original Breakout). also got a NES, Genesis (that one's in a box in the attic i think, but who really cares?), N64, Dreamcast.
but the pearl of the lot is this little baby...

anyone remember the Vectrex? all-in-one console where you don't even need a TV. it's built in the the system. it's pretty dinged up, but i don't really care as long as it works. i think i lost most of the multi-colored plastic screens that you're supposed to put on the monitor for the individual games (the only one i have left is the one for Scramble).

"Eep! Help! Spike!"

"Oh No! Molly!"

i fucking love that game.

*fuck... now i gotta go dust it off and play a round of Spike and Cleansweep

WEll, to be honest, i STILL can't beat Mike Tyson in the original NES 'MIKE TYSON PUNCH OUT' with out using the game genie. Also, i still play the 'MANIAC MANSION' spinoff 'Zak McKracken and the ALIEN MINDBENDERS' via the old comedore 64.

I have Atari 2600, 5200, Comedorre 64, intellivision 1 & 2, and all the nintendos.

Monkey Island (PC)
Monkey Island II (PC)

i bought escape from monkey island because it was 3 bucks, but its just not as good as those old ones. they changed the way you move and stuff, not nearly as fun. i haven't even been able to get into playing it. those other 2 are great though. a couple of months ago i got into the emulators but stopped. in a few months the phase will probably hit me again.

zombies ate my neighbors kicked ass because there were so many weapons. each level had weapons specific to its environment. like the level with the backyards had a lawnmower, the supermarket level had tomatoes and soda cans. and you could be two different characters.

Write To Me Here

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?
