Does anybody know anything about this? I'm told it's just a pure power computer gaming system. Blows everything out of the water, but it's damn pricey.

Alienware systems definately are very pricey but they make some of the best performance computers available. You could probably just buy the parts seperately though and put one together for about 3-4 hundred less if you know how to do such a thing.

Alienware makes a fine machine, as does Facon Northwest. These are strictly powerful gaming machines, yes - but they not only give you the tip quality components, they also tweak it to your needs. If your'e mainly a FPS gamer, they set your system settings accordingly, same as an RPG gamer, etc. Their tech support is also excellent, and they usually supply full system restore discs (not canned ones that give you basic drivers, etc.). If I had the spare cash I'd get one.

As Jack stated yes, if you know what your'e doing you could build a similar system yourself, but it might take a little more time and obviously much more work on your part.

Thanks guys. Work on my part tends to be avoided whenever possible. I'm seriously considering getting the Area 51, it seems worth it, and everyone I've shown the specs too said it was basically overkill. 500 watt Thx speakers? God I want this thing. If I get it, I'm gonna use it only for gaming, I'll keep my laptop for getting work done.

If you go to www.alienware.com, you can customize a machine to your pricerange, and still get a kick ass gaming PC.

Hey guys, I wouldnt recommend going with Alienware. My friend had bought one several months ago and it was nothing more then a glorified Compaq Presario minus the generic on-board components. The system arrived in about 4-5 weeks and performed decently however it wasnt worth the money put forward like some have already mentioned in the forum. The personalized owners manual was sub par and looked like something from a high school report. I have had the pleasure previously to use a Falcon system and thought it had much better characteristics then the Alienware system. Alienware seems to be all hype. So if your looking for a pretty case then Alienware is the right way to go.

Oh, I thought I would give you guys a link to an Alienware hate site that was made by customers who had experienced problems with the company before. Hey its pretty bad when you have customers making hate sites about a company. Nuff said...Good luck guys.

They make good machines, but if I were you I'd go to something like Dell online and customize a computer...Much cheaper, and I compared the machine with one my friend bought from Alienware, the benchmarks were often the same, but in several cases the one I had custom built worked much better....Although I would'nt mind having those cool cases alienware has

You can pick the case up at CompUSA for about $120.00. Antec is the company that produces them. I have the case myself, but being an employee of CompUSA, I get a nice hefty discount on them.

There are several smaller companies that make good machines - you do best if you customize what you want. PC world keeps a list of their top recommendations online: PC World Top Home PC's

A cheap but good company is ABS technologies ABS PC systems

One factor (for me) is tax vs shipping. If you order from a company that does not have a "presence" in your home state, they will not charge you sales tax, although you do pay shipping. On a $1500+ purchase tax can add up.

PS - you might have wanted to put this in tech forum.
