This from 1wrestling.com:

Current NWA champion and former ECW World Heavyweight and "The King of Old School" Steve Corino has opted to retire, beginning this November. The decision was made while Corino was in the ring this past weekend defending the NWA championship in Winnipeg.

"Its not fun anymore....20 minutes into my match in Winnipeg on Sunday I looked around and said 'there is nothing left to do.' My 15 minutes are up and now it is becoming a job to me." said Corino in a conversation on Thursday morning.

Corino, made his professional debut in 1994 after being trained by Tom Brandi and Mike Kahlua. He was a Northeastern independent mainstay as part of a tag team with Simon Diamond before debuting for Extreme Championship Wrestling in late 1998. Brought in by Nova, Corino's gift for gab was used early on in feuds with Taz and Tommy Dreamer.

After Dusty Rhodes was brought into ECW in 2000, Corino underwent a transformation from a modern-day manager fashioned after the late Eddie Gilbert to a blonde brawler fashioned after the old school brawler of old, spilling a ton of blood along the way.

With his new direction and a short babyface turn, Corino graduated to main eventer and headlined several ECW PPVs as ECW World Heavyweight champion, feuding with Jerry Lynn, the Sandman, and Justin Credible.

"I have decided to retire to pursue other interests. I feel like I have done everything I ever dreamed about doing and I am out of goals. It is not fun anymore."

Corino has a number of NWA championship defenses scheduled, including one against Shinya Hashimoto at the NWA 53rd Anniversary show on 10/13. Corino recently sold his interest in Pennsylvania-based independent promotion The Premiere Wrestling Federation, a group he founded earlier this year. He also recently opened Old School Sportswear, a clothing company.

Corino joins another former ECW World champion, Mikey Whipwreck, who is scheduled to retire on 10/20 in Deer Park, Long Island with his final match being against Little Guido.

This saddens me, as I liked Corino's style...he'd have been a Horsemen if he was fifteen years earlier...he has a great respect for the legends, and his love of Dusty Rhodes is well documented...I can only wish him well, and be glad I saw him wrestle live...

It's not funny, my ass is on fire....
Thanks to the lovely Jolene for my sig pic...

He will be missed. I dont blame him though, he really was the king of old school. He liked wrestling for wrestling, not all this other politics stuff that gets in the way. At least he got out when he knew it wasnt fun anymore. I wouldnt be surprised if he eventually came back to fight in Japan a few years down the road.

That's really a shame. I've been a fan of his since his days in NWA-NJ, and he's come a long way in such a short time. I remember marking out like crazy when he made his debut against Nova at the ECW Arena, while my friends kept asking me, "Who's the jobber and why are you cheering for him?" A few shows later, though, they were cheering as loud as I was for Corino, his hysterical promos, and his great matches. Whatever he undertakes now, I wish him all the luck in the world.

That's too bad. I always liked Steve Corino. He had a great gimmick, mic skills, and technical skills. It's a shame he'll be retiring at such a young age.

I had nothing against Steve Corino

but to me his name will always be associated with the outright demise of ECW.

Give me a break FB. Like he was the sole reason ECW went in the tank. His name will be associated as a guy who busted his ass every night, who also did independent shows while ECW was going strong, because he loved what he was doing at the time. There is no one name that associates with ECW's demise.

I knew this would happen.
ok.

I said ASSOCIATE with ECW's Demise.

I did not say he is RESPONSIBLE for ECW's Demise.

When I think of the glory days of ECW, I think of Sabu,RVD,Taz,Triple Threat, Sandman, Dreamer, Eliminators, Dudleyz, etc.etc.

When I think of the shitty days of ECW, I think of Steve Corino as World Champion. Chilly Willy, Simon Diamond, Elektra, Da Baldies, etc.etc.

As I said before nothing against Corino. i happened to like him, never really considered him a World Champion, and didnt care for him as a face either,

But just to clear that up.

I feel as if I can never trust wrestler retirement. No matter who the wrestler is.
