I hope you all enjoyed the clusterfuck that was No Mercy. There was some pretty good wrestling in there, but the booking was just horrible, as has been the trend lately. They had the perfect opportunity to elevate 2 guys as solid main-eventers, and they failed. Miserably.

Case #1: Booker T. As a fan of Booker from his WCW days, I'll be the first to admit that his work in the WWF has been poor at best. He's capable of doing so much better, if they'd just drop the stupid spinnarooni BS and let him work his matches. But anyway, he still seems to have some kind of heat from the fans, and a win over Undertaker would have solidified him as a top level contender in the fans' eyes. But a clean loss to Captain Lazy means that he is still weak, and is not up to par with the rest of the main eventers.

Case #2: Chris Jericho. That was a damn good match, the best Jericho has had in months, and the best Rocky's had since Wrestlemania, easily. Going in, it seemed almost like a given that Jericho was going over tonight. Instead of doing the right thing, and ending a dramatic match with a clean and decisive victory over the #1 face (think Hogan/Warrior here) which wouldn't hurt The Rock in any way, but would solidify Jericho's spot near the top of the card, they send Steph the heat-sucker out there to taint Jericho's victory. Now instead of the guy who can't win the big ones, he's the guy who can't win the big ones without help from a big-titty airhead. Nice job.

Of course, there's so much more to bitch about. The overkill of the ladder match gimmick (good match, but that's what, the 4th one this year?), the overuse of 3 ways, the overuse of the No DQ stipulation, the mishandling of Lance Storm, screwy finishes in the undercard, blah blah blah.

At least there was some good wrestling in there, and Stacy and Torrie looked nice. Now someone please shoot the writers.

**EDIT**

Just a little something I thought of just after I hit that damn post button. Maybe if the WWF needs some new ideas, they should just look at what's going on in Japan (you know, the place where Bischoff got the NWO idea, and where Paul E. got all of his ECW ideas from).

New Japan vs. All Japan (the two biggest Japanese promotions and bitter rivals) on 6/6/01 at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, with a crowd of 14,000, did a 5 vs. 5 series of matches with Fuchi/Samurai, Kakihara/Tanaka, Nagai/Iizuka, Barton/Nakanishi, and Kawada/Kojima.

Total number of run-ins and/or screwy finishes: zero.

The rest of the 6/6/01 show (Mutoh/Hase for 40 minutes, Chono/Nogami/Tenzan vs. Liger/Kea/etc., Fujita vs. Nagata for IWGP Heavyweight Title) all had clean finishes.

The show drew a $750,000 gate.

[WWF Writer]But... but.... without run-ins, how do you advance the storylines? There's just no other way![/WWF Writer]

It's absolutely fucking sickening these days. SO MUCH TALENT available, and they're doing matches like the Hardys vs. Lance Storm and The Hurricane? ON A PPV??? They've got so many guys they're not using. Hell, at least if they would use ALL of the talent, there would be less repetition... they could advance an angle on only one show, not both. Midcard feuds could be split between Raw and Smackdown.... no need to have the STUPID feuds on EVERY SHOW. Skip a few. It leaves room for more. Then the show is not so fucking boring. And then - what a concept - with all these excess angles, take the ones that are getting THE MOST HEAT.... and - are you ready for this? - THOSE are your PPV matches! Then we don't have to sit through stinkfests like Test vs. Kane! It's a revolutionary concept!
