Smackdown Tapings

...and boy, did it suck.

(1) The Dudleys beat APA to keep WCW tag straps after a 3D on Faarooq. Decent match.

Then came the 20 minute interview. Austin demanded the Alliance (except for Booker, Angle, and Van Dam) go to the ring and asked several members (Chavo, Hugh, Hurricane, Stasiak, and Kidman) if they trusted him. Tazz, who until this point was on commentary, then said that he didn't trust Austin and neither did the rest of the Alliance. Until this point, Austin had been a babyface, but the crowd really got behind Tazz. Austin then gave Tazz the stunner, and the rest of the alliance left while Austin beat up Tazz. After a commercial break, Austin then demanded Shane McMahon to go get Booker, Paul Heyman to go get RVD, and Stephanie McMahon to go get Angle so he could interrogate them individually.

Jim Ross did commentary from here on out.

(2) Test beat Matt Hardy with the big boot in a decent little match to keep the IC Title. Afterwards, Test celebrated on the ramp and Edge speared him, so I guess that's a Survivor Series match.

Austin asked Booker about whether he was the mole in the Alliance, and showed footage from KOTR (held in this building) where Booker attacked Austin, to imply that maybe Booker would jump. Booker claimed he was with the Alliance, but fingered RVD as a possible mole.

Vince and Rock had a backstage segment where Vince wished Rock well in his match with Booker, and also checked on Rock's condition (they tried to play up an elbow injury). Rock said that he was fine, but that he was looking to get Jericho for what happened.

(3) Rock beat Booker T by DQ to keep the WCW Title. Ref bump, Rock went for the People's Elbow, but Jericho ran in from the crowd to attack him. Booker covered, didn't get the win. Rock then got Booker in the Sharpshooter when RVD ran in to break up the pin, and Rock was DQ'd. Post-match, RVD hit the frog splash on Booker, Rock hit the spinebuster on RVD, and Jericho attacked Rock and left as the only one standing.

After this, the show went downhill.

Horrible backstage segment with Vince and UT. Vince asked where Kane was, since the main event was scheduled as UT and Kane vs Angle and Austin. UT said Kane wasn't there. UT then took exception to Vince trying to court Austin back to the WWF and claimed that he'd try to take care of Austin before Survivor Series. Segment ended with McMahon smiling his evil billionaire smile.

William Regal then came out and challenged Big Show to a match. Big Show came out and was immediately jumped by about ten Alliance members. He sold for none of them and left all of them laying.

Backstage after commercial, Vince complimented Big Show on his performance and asked if he'd like to take his spot on Team WWF. Big Show agreed to do so.

(4) Jeff Hardy & Lita beat Ivory & Lance Storm after Lita pinned Ivory, getting her win back from Monday. Not much of a match. This was set up earlier as Lita needed a tag partner for this match, but Matt said he was too busy going after the IC title. Afterwards, Jeff offered to take his spot. Sort of teased dissension.

(5) Christian beat Tajiri with the Tomokaze to keep the European Title. Christian wore the Diamondbacks jersey again, which got a split response, although the crowd chanted "Let's Go Yankees" during the match, I guess to rally Tajiri.

Austin then interrogated RVD backstage over interfering in the Booker-Rock match. He basically asked RVD if he was jumping to Team WWF, but RVD basically pointed out that Austin was the one with the history of turning on his partners, and then Austin called the whole thing off.

(6) Undertaker beat Steve Austin and Kurt Angle in the main event. Match was really, really boring and had no crowd heat at all. Austin and Angle had a miscommunication spot, and Undertaker pinned Austin to get the win. Afterwards, Austin gave Angle the stunner, I guess to keep the tease going.

Notes: Overall, the Smackdown portion really sucked. Heat and the dark matches were Okay, but they'll need to do some serious editing to make Smackdown watchable this week.

Yeah... I was there last night and it was pretty poor other than looking at the huge WOW sign across from me near the ramp. Hopefully it gets on TV. I thought the highlight of the night, (If there was a highlight) was Austin bringing the Alliance members to the ring and the crowd saying 'what?' and 'RVD'. Other than that... it was a sad... sad show. I have to say unfortunately it was a waste of 50 bucks. Naw, screw it, it was funny to see Steven Richards get beat to hell in a HEAT dark match. Bah.

Were there any signs that dealt with O&A that possibly made Tv. Opie said Jersey could not do as well as Long Island.

What I don't understand is why Vince has not taken the booking job away from her, and given Paulie a chance, or even possible asking Sir O if he want s a job :)..... Is he scared to hurt her feelings?

I was there last night, and ill tell you that it wasnt THAT bad. The Heat and dark matches were good, especially the Scotty 2 Hotty and ALbert vs Hugh Morrus and Chavo match. That probably had the most crowd reaction all night. They will edit this, but when austin came out with the alliance, the crowd was chanting RVD. He was saying what repeatedly and tried to climb the turnbuckle, and slipped, dropping his belt to the floor and hitting his face on the turnbuckle. Funny when he asked Buh Buh Ray to get the belt for him. The first hour of Smackdown will be really good, the only reason to watch the 2nd hour is for the promos that austin cuts.

TW. Opie was right. Jersey let us down compared to NY. I saw maybe 3 WOW signs and no other show related signs. Maybe just our fanbase was situated in NY monday eve, who knows...
